I am new here and will not be having my surgery until October. My BMI is 35 and I am getting so much negativity from heavier people when I go to my appointments. So many rude comments. ..........I have major health issues and need to do this to live a normal length of life. It does make me nervous but I know I need to do this. These comments are making me feel guilty about my decision.

I am new too, hoping for an early September date. As for the guilt and negativity just let it roll over you. You and only you know why you are choosing this and it is not up to any one else to judge. I don't think that you have any reason to feel guilty. Hang in there!

My BMI was 42 when I began this journey, and the people I chatted with in the waiting room all thought I was post surgery, and told me I looked great! ha! When I told them I was pre-op, they'd all say....you don't need the surgery, you could do it with just diet and exercise. (really?!) I just smiled and said thank you, or you are so kind. etc.

I got lots of looks as well when I went to my first meeting. No one said anything but I'm sure they thought what is he doing here. My BMI was 38 but I had high blood pressure, cholesterol and knee problems as well as sleep apnea issues. I had failed at numerous diets over 40 years. I could lose weight but it always came back plus even more pounds. I did this for me. I wanted a better quality of life and I wanted to live longer. This surgery is my last hope. So far I am totally satisfied with my decision. best of luck to you. Listen to yourself and actualize your goals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
