Hi everyone,

I had my RNYGB on the 20th May and I'm only over a week out, but I have had these thoughts even before the surgery that what if this fails this is my last resort and knowing my luck I will be this one person in the world who doesn't lose weight from a weight loss surgery.

I know I'm doing everything right and not "cheating" but I feel as though what if my surgeon made the pouch to big and I don't reach my goal.

I know I have to give it time and be patient but I am a natural worrier and can't help but fall into the "what if's" I guess that comes from so many past failures.

Another thing that I worry about is that compared to quiet a few people on here I seem to be able to eat a bit more than others.

I guess I would just like some comfort in knowing some others had these feelings and fears.

I too am able to eat more than most and I have been concerned from Day 1 about not losing weight. Thus far I have lost about 15 pounds where I see others losing much more during this time.

I agree with you iamCJayne iam not sure wether my body is just working on fixing this wound and the weight will come later. Boy I hope it does, the main thing I hope is that my type 2 diabetes goes away.

I have ceased insulin which is amazing but I was hoping tablets would be gone too. I think I just need to give it time

I have the exact same fears! I am sure that there was a mistake or I was "duped" . I told my husband just yesterday that I was sure the surgeon gave me a bigger pouch since I didn't have quite a 90lbs to lose. My surgery was May 7 and the weight loss has been slow. I also feel that I can eat way more then others at the same stage. Yesterday I had no trouble finishing a scrambled egg with cheese. I did download an app to help me slow down taking bites, and that did help me feel more satiated. But at 3 weeks post op I have barely lost 14% of my excess weight (post surgery) I guess I was hoping for a more quick beginning. I certainly hope that it doesn't get much slower ????

I guess we will just have to work this a little harder. I know we can do it and I'm glad I'm not in this alone.

Fear not my friends. I did not start feeling restriction until the end of week 8. I was told this was normal because of nerve involvement and swelling. But hearing so many others say, "I can barely tolerate a tablespoon of pudding...blah, blah, blah" had me wondering what kind of circus freak I was.

There have been a few studies that show that pouch size does not correlate with success it is behavioral changes, or lack of, that make the difference. The best advice I was given early on was to measure all of my food with measuring cups not the scale, "Your pouch knows volume not weight. It's approximately the size of a hard boiled egg". Eat it slow enough that it takes you 15-30 minutes to finish it. And most importantly, a good new habit is to NOT eat until you are full. Just because you can eat more without any sensation of fullness doesn't mean you should.

It was harder to make myself stop eating when the food was gone instead of until I felt full. I can still eat more than most everyone I know who has had the surgery which makes me feel like the freak in the room at support meetings. I was told at week 6 that I could eat up to 1/2-3/4 a cup at a time to feel satiation and that has worked and I'm right on track for weight loss. 50+ pounds in 8 weeks.

Also the statistics my team gave me were 10% weight loss in the first month. Then 10% of that weight by the 3rd month. So @@SavorySweet, you are doing fantastic! Remember, a lot of us stall for about 10 days around week 3 so don't let that hurdle freak you out if it happens to you.

I'm only weighing once a month but as of a week ago I had four weeks to lose 8.8 pounds to stay on goal.

ok that's good info. I am worried about gaining weight and I haven't even had surgery yet! So 10% first month, then another 10% by month three then what?? I have no clue what to expect!

@@goodnuff Thanks so much for the comforting words! Good to know that I may not notice better feelings of restriction for a few more weeks. Also, I realize that you are only speaking of averages, when you speak of 10% weight loss the first month, are you speaking of excess weight or overall weight? And then 10% of that more by 3 months, again is this excess weight or overall weight or I shutter to think, 10% of the first month's loss???? I guess I need to get my workouts in a much more intense place, bcuz I'm certain I can not eat any less. Thanks again for your help! I Love these Forums!

The one month goal I was given was 10% of my pre-op weight. 309 x .10 = 31-ish pounds. The second 10% was of my one month weight, so another 28-ish pounds.

I have read that RNY loss averages are 70% of your excess weight, this was supported by a large study published in JAMA http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=199587#RESULTS

my dietician expects I'll lose 50% of my excess weight by six months and the other 20% by one year for a total of 70% by one year. I plan to make her at least right and ideally more than right!

Thanks goodnuff, it helps to know that that the sensation will come, I'm lucky in that I don't ever feel hungry yet so that is a plus.

I just hit 6 weeks a couple of days ago and things I was eating are not going down as easily. I just started regular foods. I am not eating as much either. I don't have a choice. I was able to eat almost a whole cup of yogurt a week ago, now a few bites and I'm done. It's weird!
