Getting close to goal weight! Any advice on corrective surgeries? (Mommy makeover?)

Recommended Posts

So Ive been hanging around 207 for a while and my goal is 180. My Drs office says to start going to plastic surgeons to get a good idea of what I want. My first consultation is set for next month, but I would like to gather as much insight on what I'm getting into as possible. You can look at before and after pics day after day but I would love to hear some helpful hints from people who have experienced this. My husband prefers me being a bit "thick" and fears that if I get to 180 then have the surgery and loose 20-30 more pounds that I would look gaunt. I greatly appreciate it!!

Are you familiar with the realself.com website? You will have to create an account to view the pictures, but it a great way to see people's before/after pics and people blog about their experience. It was after viewing that website that I decided to put off plastics until I was at my ultimate goal weight. I was able to see people at my height/weight and I realized I wouldn't be happy with the after results. It's also a great way to research different surgeons and read reviews on them.

Bluesea71,

A friend of mine just told me about it also. I will certainly look into it and see what I can find out. Thank you for the idea!!

It's become my new obsession. Good luck! That website really has the most before/after pics and they are from real people vs. ones hand selected from the surgeon, so you get a good idea of their work. People also post pictures through out their journey, so you get a good idea what the incisions and scars look like along the way too. I may have also mentioned before, you can post pics of yourself with questions and a plastic surgeon will give you feedback. For free on what procedures they would recommend!

I would recommend the above website and select a good surgeon. I lost 110 lbs in 2004 and underwent a TT in 2006. I have been completely over the moon happy with it! I gained 65 lbs back, hence the LB in April but my stomach still looks great!! I also had my arms done at the same time....not as happy and he warned me of the scars etc. I would probably still do them but it's not as invisible as my TT.

Do your research and congrats on your success!!

My insurance covered the TT due to chronic rash under the skin folds. They did not cover the arms but that didn't cost much since it was during the same surgery.

kW.

I had some work done .. TT / paniculy about 11 weeks ago. Have had a bit of experience also. I say go for it! Soo happy that 8 lbs. (yes eight) of belly fat is gone. Haven't seen my stomach this flat since high school !

Consultations can be free or deducted from surgery depending on office procedure.

I felt like I was taking good care of myself for doing some tune up work each time.

Sixty is easier than 50 for me. Good luck on your decisions. Many others have experience too on these boards.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
