Tight after flying

Recommended Posts

If you've read any of my other posts, you know I'm having all kinds of complications.

However, I was wondering, has anyone ever experienced any tightness after flying on an airplane?

The aircraft is pressurized so that the passengers are comfortable, unfortunatly it is the same pressure as being at 16,000 feet above Sea Level. This can change the pressure you feel on your band.

I suggest that you do not eat much before the flight so that there is room for everything to move.

Good luck

Dave

I experience additional tightness when I fly. I also get it when there's a storm coming. So between my band and my sinuses, I'm a human barometer : )

Me! I went on vacation a few weeks ago and could barely eat for two days after we got there. It sucked because we were at an all-inclusive, so it was mostly buffet, which means all the meat is a bit over done. It was difficult to find appropriate choices that wouldn't cause me problems. A small price to pay for spending a week in the Bahamas though, right?

Yep, I just got home from a vacation where I had a 6 hour flight and I have no fill yet..but I felt like I did! Not a bad thing because I actually lost weight. :)

Hi Vanessa and all,

I live in northern maine, but had both bandings as well as all subsequent fills in Houston.

I fly down to Houston Texas from Maine each month.

I have never had a problem with flying and tightness. My surgeon has never had a problem filling me knowing i was flying out the next day. He prefers me stay two days so i will know if ill be too tight or not in time to adjust it, and i do.

but i gotta tell you...ive never had a problem with tightness on flight, home after flight or anything surrounding the flights.

I've been flying alot lately and NEVER had a problem with tightness and this is with a slipped band that I have now. I guess everyone's body is different. But if you're nervous, just have a Protein Shake before you go on a plane and keep it light for the rest of the day. :)

I had flown for business twice with the band with no noticeable effects; however, I flew once more recently after my band was tightened (several fills), and I learned the hard way not to eat anything before the flight! It did tighten up considerably. Next time, I will stick to liquids before, during, and for a day after the flight just to be sure.

Yep, me! I'm always tighter after flying for about two to three days.

I also get tighter if I go to a high elevation.

About a month after my first fill I flew to Colorado Springs. That was a miserable week. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
