Did they really take half my tummy?

Recommended Posts

I'm six days post op. I saw my Dr and had to ask him if he really did the surgery. I can get a lot more down if it's warm, like broth or tea. Cooler liquids take me longer. But I have yet to feel any actual restriction. I've started on soft foods, like egg salad and tuna salad. I take my time chewing and have only attempted 2ozs or less at a time just to be safe. I haven't felt any pain since surgery. So I don't know if maybe the stomach nerves are still numb and maybe that's why we don't feel the restriction.

wow that's awesome you're on soft foods, I'm 8 days post and can't do soft until day 15, can't wait! Lol sounds like everything is going well with you, Nice! ????????

I'm Nervous for soft foods. Being vegetarian I don't have the option for soft meats and such that are dense protien. Beans it is I guess...my poor husband haha

Just because it's soft food - or "just beans" - doesn't mean it has to be boring. Become good friends with your spice rack and get creative!

I was wondering this too. I'm a Lil over a week out and have been able to take a whole portion of pudding. It scares me but I feel better reading this. Am also very glad I have no problem getting my liquid down

I can easily eat a whole yogurt or pudding 100g container also. I think because pudding and yogurt (except Greek) are both quite thin maybe it is more of a "full liquid" than a solid?

I can eat a whole thing of yogurt but it takes me almost an hour to get it down, same with a Protein Shake. And I haven't been getting anywhere near 64 ounces of Water yet! I'm four days post-op.

Tonight this theory was tested and found to be true. I had about 1.5-2 oz of Chilean sea bass and had to call it quits!

I thought I had wasted my time with the surgery until I started eating real food again. Now I feel the restriction. I wouldn't let the first couple of months scare you. The restriction comes. Just stick with the plan!

Reading through these posts made me say, "I felt that way!" At eight days post-op, I vividly remember how I felt like I was starving. I remember telling my hubby how hungry I was and wondering if the doctor took out enough of my stomach. As soon as I started eating soft foods I felt much better. I think it must have something to do with eating Clear Liquids and your body is just craving substance. I'm now five months post and down over 40lbs. I love, love, love my sleeve and am ever so thankful for it. I will say, eat slow and learn your "full" point. I have only thrown up once... now I know my point. Good luck on your journey!

My surgeon seems to have a very progressive meal plan. I'm actually freaking out because I've been regaining a few ozs everyday for the last 2 days. But everyone keeps telling me to relax and that it might just be Water retention. I really hope it's just that since i have no other symptoms.

I felt the same way. About 4 days after surgery I could drink and drink thin liquids. But. When I had Tomato Soup, it filled me up quick. I also feel hungry all the time. My friends that had the surgery said its all in my mind. But it wasn't. I was hungry. I wasn't even thinking about food at the time.

Oh my God, I had to laugh when I read this post because I am a week out as of tomorrow, and I was wondering this morning if maybe my surgeon didn't remove enough of my stomach. Helps to know I am not alone in thinking about this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
