Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

Recommended Posts

I leave for San Diego on the 27th and still have not gotten a confirmation for pickup by OCC? Also haven't heard what time to show up at the hospital or gotten a hotel confirmation. Does anyone know how this works. I'm kinda freaking out I'm going to be stranded in San Diego airport :/

The "Pre-Operative Patient Checklist" they sent in the beginning instructed us to Email all our flight info and any extra hotel night requests to concierge@obesitycontrolcenter.com at least 10 days before arrival. I got an email confirmation back from them after doing this. If you sent everything but haven't received confirmation, give them a call at 866-376-7849 ext 83 or ext 90. Talk to Gloria... She was great dealing with my multiple arrival times and delayed flights. Also verify with her exactly what nights you need at the Marriott and what time to be at OCC. The OCC shuttle will pick you up and take you back to the airport. The Marriott van shuttles you from the hotel to OCC the whole time you're there.

Thanks kindle. I did send my itinerary and she confirmed they received it so maybe that's all they need

Yep, that's all I got. But keep the phone numbers on the preop checklist handy. I ended up speaking to Gloria a lot because my original flight was cancelled and didn't get in until the day of my surgery. She took care of everything and still had me (and coopspa) at OCC in plenty of time for surgery.

Yeah, that makes me feel better. Did you get the information of when to arrive at the hospital after you arrived? Sorry I don't know anything.

When I went I arrived before 3 and the driver that picked me up at the airport took me to OCC for pre op tests and then a Mariott driver picked me up when I was done and took me to the hotel. That driver will tell you what time to be downstairs to go to OCC in the morning. If not, ask him what time. There will likely be 2-3 others plus their companion that leave at the same time as you to head to OCC in the morning. You will have to go back to OCC to get your dressing changed, and then again to have drain removed (with sleeve surgery, not sure about plication). They will tell you when to be in the lobby to take the Mariott shuttle for these things. If not, just ask! Very laid back and accommodating.

Mine is the 30th

That's great. You all will be sleeve buddies. I'm having my surgery in January 6th with him.

Mazzers, they did a wake up call as well and remind me to come downstairs the day of surgery. The bandage change on day 3 was more laid back- you kind of wait in the lobby until they call you. Any changes that needed to be made to scheduling, I was called at the Marriott. Everyone always called me by my name which was nice.

Mine was done in September, and it was a great experience, considering it was a surgery! LOL! I really felt he did a great job, ALM took awesome care of me while I was there. :)

Best of luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
