Hi @@GossipGirlxoxo !!

I'm 2 days away from being 1-month post op and it's already been a wild ride! I think the most important piece of advice I would give is to PORTION OUT YOUR MEALS! I've been going through the different "food stages" and thought I could handle more than a 1/4 cup of food, boy was I wrong! I ate way too fast so I didn't feel the full effects and in about 5 mins would puke. Worst feeling ever! I'm still struggling with my portion sizes, but am getting much better, because I HATE feeling nauseous

Also, after your surgery, get up and walk around ASAP! Helps tremendously in your recovery process! As far as foods go, follow what your NUT and surgeon says... my surgeon's office gave us a little booklet that gave us a list of food we could eat and some examples of recipes for every stage. I'm on the "soft food" stage right now, so for example, I can have chicken, but it has to be shredded. I tried different spices and sauces and had to figure out which was best and didn't make me feel sick. It's almost like a trial and error thing. As long as you stick to the program, you will be fine!!

I'm also going through this so I become healthy and am able to have children in the future. I don't have diabetes, but had extremely high blood pressure, and now it's almost back to normal. So it is working, it's just a lot of hard work! You will do great, and I wish you luck in everything!

I'm going to friend you, so I can stalk your progress :D

Put a pillow in between you and the seatbelt on your way home! It really helps!

I was surprised how good the Bariatric Advantage Protein tastes. I had a bag of vanilla, chocolate, and orange cream. When I'm at home, I go with Gold Standard whey. For when I'm on the go, I take along the individual Pure Protein servings; you can get them at costco on the cheap. I found I really liked chocolate and strawberries and cream, but I haven't tried vanilla yet.

I've mentioned it somewhere before, but my personal fave is the Syntrax Protein drinks. (Lemon Tea is the best, in my opinion...it actually tastes like iced tea) I can nurse a 24 oz. shake for a couple hours & it gives me 46 grams of Protein. Two of them a day & I'm way above my NUT's recommendation for the day before I ever eat a bite of food. And for the record- I haven't taken a single diabetes med since the night before my surgery 7 months ago. My A1C went from about a 12 pre-op to a current 5! It was one of the best feelings in the world to watch my PCP erase "Diabetes Mellitus" from my medical record! Best of luck to you! :)

I am 2 weeks and 1 day post-op. I took pills for my diabetes pre-surgery and was changed to insulin in the hospital because my sugars were so high and because I can no longer swallow the pills. As of today, I have needed insulin only 1 time in the past 5 days. I am very pleased.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
