If you can manage to stay away from Sur La Table, please do. They know me by name in there, I just go to look (don't always buy), but I have to see what's on clearance..

I make a dill potato salad (it's really good) (too bad I can't eat it anymore) with dry dill weed, seasoning salt, rice wine vinegar, little splenda or equal, green onion, egg, black pepper, and best foods Mayonnaise

In regards to the food porn - it's sad how much I watch - unfortunately I'm also addicted to print form - I get so many food related magazines and my cookbook addiction is almost as bad as my love for novels.

All my friends make fun of me because I rarely use recipes - but I really do - or ones I've seen -stay in my head and sometimes I just modify them as I go. I love seeing what others do with food.

Last night I had a friend over for dinner and when he came in he asked if I wanted the box on the steps brought in. When I took it from him - I was like - WTH did I order that was soooo heavy - opened the box and remembered it was a shipment of books (about 8 of the America's Test Kitchen series - they were 50% off)

That's the mark of a good cook, KC...has tons of cookbooks but never uses a recipe.

I do understand. I often "research" a dish I'd like to make and then combine what I gathered along with my ideas and past experience to come up with my own version. Fortunately the Internet and subsequent plagiarism of every cookbook ever in print has greatly reduced my cookbook purchases. Recipezaar is so bad that people freely admit the source.

I have a hard time with the measurements and cooking times when somebody asks me for a recipe. They don't understand, it has the amount you need of this and that and you cook it for just enough time for it to be done!

B – ¾ C Uncle Sam’s Cereal w/ ½ c 1% milk

L – 1 C stir fry with chicken, bok choy, peppers, and udon noodles

S – 1oz almonds

D – ½ C chicken korma, 1/2 c cauliflower, 1tbs. Chutney, few bites of naan

Today was the first time I’ve had cold cereal since banding. I was reluctant to try it because I have problems eating broth based Soups with chunks. I can eat thicker soups, even with chunks with no problems. It’s the broth based soups like chicken noodle that kill me. The thin liquids must push down on the solids with more force. Plain Water on an empty stomach will sometimes get me, while a thicker drink goes down fine. I’ve found that even a slight change in viscosity like crystal light vs. water makes a big difference. Nice little high school physics experiment I have going on in my stomach! I cannot have liquids when I eat because it pushes down on the food and hurts so bad. Following the no drinking while eating rule has been no problem for me. I thought the cold cereal would be difficult but it wasn’t bad. I have a hard time getting enough Fiber so I was glad to find another option.

Luluc,

I have been reading some of your posting and you were the same size as me starting out. I am 5 foot and was 200 lb, now 161. I had a coughing problem and they took Fluid out and I'm starting over. I had a fill a couple of weeks ago and now I can barely eat maybe 650 cals if I'm lucky. Did you have any problems with your fills or getting the right amount in it? I fill like I'm going back and forth with fills and unfills. I have a 10cc band with 7 cc in it for the moment. I have plateau for the last 9 months. You are at my goal weight of 130 lbs and I just don't know what to do. Any advis?

Thanks

Darla

darla,

i had a few bumps in the road - hernia repair/port infection & just recently a chest infection that caused an aspiration cough & the band inflamed. i let it go too long & dropped to 118lbs - which is not where i want to be.

i had my band unfilled to 1.5cc's last friday & wow i could eat all day long if i allow. i just made DH desert and i refrained & might have a glass of milk later.

my fill has been as high as 8.5cc's & was at 7.2 till last wk, my advice and this is just me speaking - i learned if i want to eat i have to exercise.

to break a plateau - i had to change things up, good luck:)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
