_Brooke_ 45 Posted May 26, 2015 Hey Everyone! So I am still in my 6 month Doctor Supervised weight loss period. I'm starting month 5 here soon and I'm a little nervous about insurance. My starting weight at the beginning was 300 pounds and last doctor visit I weighed 305. I have gained right around a pound each doctor appointment. I have stuck to my diet the majority of the time with a few cheats here or there. (I have BCBS of AL) Has anyone else gained weight and still gotten approved? Thanks! SkinnyDown 409 Posted May 26, 2015 @ are you on insulin or any diabetes meds? That can make a difference. It's very hard to lose on insulin especially. I'm sorry to hear about the gain, that's frustrating. Keep trying though. I know I really cut down even more carbs specifically which helped me reach my goal during that 6 month period. Best of luck to you! You can do it!!
_Brooke_ 45 Posted May 26, 2015 I have PCOS and take metformin for it. I'm insulin resistant. Ever since I got diagnosed with the PCOS several years back it seems like it has gotten harder and harder to lose weight. Or if I do lose some weight its because I work out 6-7 days a week for 1hr n half. I'm just really nervous that my insurance is going to deny me because of the gain. They don't count PCOS as a co-morbidity.
SkinnyDown 409 Posted May 26, 2015 @ I'm going to keep my fingers and toes crossed for you! I wish insurance companies would recognize just how hard it is for people with PCOS. I have it too. Plus, you take metformin. Both strikes against you to lose. What worked best for me was really cutting back the carbs. Even more than the specified diet, because I know when I do, I will lose more weight. I can totally understand your nervousness. If you ever want to chat, friend me Sounds like we have some stuff in common.
_Brooke_ 45 Posted May 26, 2015 Thanks, I appreciate it! I'm going to look into keeping up with carbs and see if that helps some. I don't see how it could hurt!
SAD HATTER 122 Posted May 27, 2015 I gained weight. Insurance (UHC) said they didn't care. My surgeon does. I have to lose 10 lbs in 2.5 months.

I also started my liquid diet and it has made it a lot esier.
TMG1980TMG 136 Posted June 18, 2015 My surgeon doesn't have any weight loss goals! He has habit goals each month! I love him!! I gained the first two months but lost last month and I think I am down today-- headed for 4th weigh in in a few minutes. My insurance doesn't have any requirement on losing weight during he six months. Did you read the policy? You might want to get a copy to ensure you have all requirements! You could call them too! ????

I have lost 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks alone. So excited to finally find something to help me lose weight. I haven't started drinking the Protein Shakes yet, but I have in the past. I planned to start those in July since I will have to drink them for a week straight before surgery and after surgery. What's helped you not be so hungry just being on a liquid diet? I think that is what I will struggle with(being hungry all the time).

I did read my policy and had my surgeon's office read it and nowhere does it say I have to lose weight. But I'm just wondering would they deny me since I did gain some weight originally. My surgeon is requiring me to lose at least 10 pounds by surgery which isn't bad. Good Luck with your weigh in!!
