Band Slippage?

Recommended Posts

Well I haven't ben on here for a long while. I've been pretty discouraged. I haven't lost an ounce for months. Now I am having a lot of pain and PB'ing when I try to eat and they want to do a barium swallow and Xray within the next couple of days. The thought is that I have slipped. If so they will remove all of the Fluid from my band and I'll have to wait for a month or so until I've healed before they will begin filling again.

I was a slow loser my first year and now nothing since January. I did have to deal with a lot of depression after losing my job of 22 years. But I did find a good job and am very happy now. I just have gotten way off track and now dealing with this pain and not being able to eat a meal, I'm eating whatever will go down.

Hopefully, if there is slippage and I have to be unfilled, once I begin again I'll start losing again and doing better. Wish me luck.

I am wishing you the best.

I didn't realize that if the band slips - they can unfill and let it heal. That is good to know. I thought they had to remove it completely or do surgery.

Have a good night -- and start over -- you will get back on track!

The Barium Esophogram showed no slippage but they did take out 1cc to let me rest for a month. I am already feeling better. In a month they'll put back up to 1/2 cc and see how that goes. The doctor was a little perplexed as to why this happened since my last fill was in January.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
