need change 36 Posted May 26, 2015 So I'm on day 5 of pre-op liquid diet (will be on it for two weeks total), and I'm wondering how do I get enough calories to function. I can only have 5 Protein Drinks a day plus some broth, sugar free Jello, and sugar free Popsicles. I figure that is about 800 or so calories a day. How is that enough to function? Plus they want u to exercise. Right now I have no energy and usually try to take a nap during the day. Am I doing something wrong?
kempermorris 144 Posted May 26, 2015 I survived on 3 shakes a day. A couple of days I had 4. You will be weak. I lost 30lbs during my 2 week pre op. Absolutely the hardest thing I've ever done but so worth it. I'm 5 months post op & have lost 102 lbs so far. Good Luck to you.

kempermorris 144 Posted May 26, 2015 Exercise is very important. You won't be able to walk very far after surgery but you get stronger everyday. I walk 2 miles every other day &-1 mile in between. I joined a gym. Lifting weights really helped & will increase your metabolism. Time will pass fast on your diet. Don't cheat. Do what they tell you to do. You'll be glad you did it. Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted May 26, 2015 In the short term all you really need is Protein since our bodies have excess stores of carbohydrates and fat. Our bodies can't store protein. So as long as you are getting enough protein (before and after surgery) your body can use stored fat for energy.
