I've read a lot about the PB thing. I'm wondering what it feels like? I kind of have a fear about choking anyway. Does it feel like you are choking? That is how I imagine it.

Also, what do you do the first few weeks especially if you have to be at a dinner where you can't eat ANYTHING? I'm not telling anyone about my decision so how do I explain it? I know it was always bad enough when I was lowcarbing and would try to get out of eating, but this is much worse if I'm still on liquids or mush.

And if you don't plan to tell people, what do you say when they start asking about the weight loss?

Thanks!

I can't help you with what to do at dinner time, or what to tell people, because everyone I know knows about my situation. The PB'ing for me feels like I took one bite too many and its going to come back up. First I have a pain in my chest that feels like I swallowed a golf ball, which is on fire. I usually run for the bathroom, burp, then it all comes back up. It never hurts or bothers me at all when it comes back up. It happens about once a month for me and it usually happens when I'm not paying attention to chewing or I'm eating too fast. You'll learn to slow down with eating. And for me it happens with solid food only.

I usually excuse myself to the bathroom. If it's a public restroom, I'll flush the toilet while pbing so no one can hear me.

I doesn't feel like choking to me at all. Actually, the quicker I get rid of something that's stuck, the less painful and difficult it is to pb. Sometimes I open my mouth and bend over the toilet and it sort of just falls out. Other times it needs a little help.

I know all bandsters are really fearful of pbing but it really isn't that bad. Just like everything else in life, you learn to adapt.

What kind of dinner do you expect to not be able to eat anything?

If it's during your pre or post op diet, you can always say that your doctor has you on a very strict temporary diet due to some digestive issues you're having, but not to worry, this temporary diet is sure to clear up the issue, and bring your own Protein Shake, or broth or whatever you CAN have, and don't feel obligated to tell them anything else. It's really none of their business, anyway.

OR, you can tell them you're not feeling well, and not go.... There are several ways around this, it's up to you how to handle it. Just remember, it really is none of their business unless you decide to make it their business. If someone presses you, just tell them you're not comfortable talking about it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
