Recommended Posts

In post op are we allowed to have sugar free Popsicles and sugar free gum. Crystal light has too much aspertame in it which makes people hungry.... I don't think the Popsicles n gum have as much

I'm surprised you can have gum...my team says it puts air in the body...the same as using straws.

Gum is not recommended by my surgeon because of the gassiness it can cause. Chewing gum almost always results in swallowing air. Most sugar free gums are sweetened with sugar alcohols rather than aspartame or Splenda and so on. Those can make you gassy too.

sugar free popsicles are ok on my plan, but sometimes cold fluids can make your pouch really hurt. We were told to stick with room temperature fluids to avoid that problem.

I chew gum sometimes to help curve my cravings. Sometimes it causes gas but most the time it's not a problem. My surgeon said just to be careful not to swallow it.

I have been chewing juicy fruit sugarless gum since the day of surgery. It takes the bad taste out of my mouth and curbs my sweet tooth. And if I feel hungry it takes those cravings away as well. But yes the surgeon made sure that I knew not to swallow it because it could cause a blockage. My suggestion is just do what your surgeon says. But I will tell you I'm glad my surgeon allows sugarless gum

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
