After having undergone the long but educational journey to surgery day, I counted down from 10 with nice thoughts as the anesthetist

gently took me down into a sleep..................................I woke in the expected uncomfort and spent the next few days rehabilitating within the 5 days I was tender but fully equipped with the tools to see the new chapter in my life take place.

I had recently been diagnosed with Diabetes / Fatty Liver and a BMI 35.1. and all the signs were looking poor. I had visited the local GP and nutritionalist and felt over educated on the subject of what to eat and what not to eat, none-the-less I persued the NHS programme and visited group sessons. However I am very strict with myself and love the exercise when I am feeling fit.

I had notification of operation day - the, 29th April 2015, I started my Liver reducing diet 14 days earlier, operation day came and was all successful, I was a very happy man.

7 days later, I attended my local hospital as the 'port' bandage was weeping - the nurse removed a blue tape type dressing around the cut as she felt it would infect the wound - And then from there things went from bad to worse as 3 different nurses dressed the wound with various dressings and I finally called the bariatric nurse who wished to see me immediatly, they have since applied 1 x stitch, to allow the 'Gunk' to come out, started a course of antibiotics then another 1 x stitch and here I am 26 days post surgery and still have a 'open wound' that is tender to the touch, I cannot lift anything I walk very gingerly around and I act like a 100 year old man, as I fear of opening the wound any more. Exercise is on hold until I can stand up straight without fear of poppin the stitches.

I feel I am in good hands with the bariatric surgeon who is personally seeing me and attending to me every 3 / 4 days. and is personally stitching and re-dressing the wound. The wound seems to be getting better with less redness and look forward to the potential weight loss in the future but this feels cruel, the dis-comfort and worry of infection I have and I cannot find my problem anywhere on the internet.

Has anybody encountered, what I am right now?,

Regards

Albert

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
