Recommended Posts

:( I had the lan band 4/9/07. I have had 3 fills. They say I have a large band, they are filling it a little at a time. I am up to 5, it hold 8 (whatever). It is not making me feel full. It hurt sometimes but I can eat anything. I was work at losting until last week and did lost 30 pounds but I can't do it on my on. That is why I did the lap band. Should I feel full? Does it take alot of fills? What is normal?

You haven't been banded that long. Give it time. Join us in the over 50 thread. Some people have a harder time losing in their 50's than some of the younger people.

Are you exercising?

Do a search on the top. I think it's called how is weight loss for people over 50. I wish I knew how to do a link but I am very computer iliterate.

I dont have much experience with fills and how effective they are, I just wanted to say maybe you could call your Dr's nurse and express your frustration to her. Ask her if its normal because of your large band size?

Good luck!

That's pretty normal for someone that's newly banded. Try to stick with mainly Protein and you won't be as hungry. Try to stay away from carbs. Digesting carbs causes hunger. You won't be as hungry when you get a good fill.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
