I am newly banded its been 15 days and I feel great. I was so nervous that I finally broke down and cried just before going into the operating room. Its normal to feel so many emotions especially knowing it is going to change your life in so many ways. I told my Dr they were happy tears he said he sees them all the time. :( When woke up of course I didnt feel all that great and I thought oh my what have I done to myself but I felt better so quickly and havent regreted it for a minute. I am so proud of myself for doing this and thinking of something for "me" . I know how you feel just remember how good you are going to feel when you lose the weight, I cant imagine anything better I have struggled for so many years. Good luck Keep us posted ! Kim

Wow! I did not realize a doctor would do one that fast. I have been researching this and doing every test and evaluation under the sun before my doctor will even think about doing the surgery. He also requires a 2 week liquid diet before surgery. I started this process in March and my records, etc were just submitted to insurance on Monday. I am nervous, too, but I have had several months to take it all in. I can't imagine how you must feel.

I have BC/BS Ma and they are great. It is only going to cost me $250 out of pocket.. I am excited but I start 4 shakes daily for the next 5 days.. That is going to be hard.. I can do it because I want this to be my last fat summer. Donna

Kimmom,

I felt the same way I was crying too and today I started to freak out as to what did I do but I am soooooooooo glad for this message board because I am realizing that all the emotions we have are normal after all if we didn't have problems in the first place we would have never needed to be here right. I was bande just this last Monday so I guess I still have the effects of the ansthesia. Also Nuresedsd good luck you will be fine.

My first though when I read this, is great, no time to think bad, not as much time to worry and just getting it over with while you are still in the excitement page. Just go get all you need for pre and post op and jump in... I am jealous. A few days of Protein liquid, a few days to get it together and BAM... can we trade I don't want to wait anymore!

GOOD LUCK... can't wait to hear about your expereince.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
