Post surgery wardrobe

Recommended Posts

I was just looking for some ideas for a post surgery wardrobe. I am guessing consignment shops and thrift stores? Also, do you get rid of the old clothes that are too big? I don't want to get into the mentality of "well I do have a bigger size here if I need it"!

Thrift stores and consignment shops are fabulous places to get fun clothes that you can't find elsewhere. Some of my new favorite items have come from them.

I am a natural pack rat and hoarder, but I am forcing myself to get rid of my large-sized clothes. Even my favorites. I want the consequence of regain to be having to go out and shop for larger sizes, not just reaching deeper into my closet. It's too easy for me to tell myself that regain is not that bad if I'm not seriously inconvenienced.

Already packing up some stuff for Goodwill...I agree, I don't want them in my closet. My mentality is I will never need them again so I am making room. I will shop sales and Goodwill. As I lose I am only going to buy a few pieces to get me by at each stage until I am at goal weight then its a shopping spree for me!

I didn't have much luck at thrift stores, but Old Navy and Target got me through the really rapid weight loss.

Great idea! With the weight coming off so quickly I'm definitely in an "in between" stage. Not too excited about buying new clothes but those are good suggestions.

That is what I did. Shopped at Goodwill for the year it took me to lose weight. I have actually bought clothes there that were brand new with tags on them. Got most of the formal dresses for our cruises from goodwill as well. I have to warn you once you get use to paying 6 bucks for a pair of perfectly good jeans it's hard to pay full price again.

While losing weight I removed from my closet immediately and donated / any clothes that had become too big for me. Never did that before. Ever.

I had plenty of clothes all the way down through 14s. BTW, donating all my 14s (I had GREAT fat clothes) was painful.

And then I hit size 12 -- I had a few of those. Happily, I then discovered an amazing high-end consignment shop in our town. I've been buying 10s -- St. John, Laurel, etc. at prices that blow me away: $15, $38, $58. Most I've ever paid is $108 for a three-piece St. John twin-set and navy slacks.

I don't really know how low I'll go -- it's possible I'll hit size 8. So I'm not investing much money in post-op clothes until then. In the meantime, I'm wearing a lot of skinny jeans, white shirts, and sexy shoes.

I saw on Facebook Gwyenne Bee. It's like Netflix but clothes. There are different packages with how much clothes you can check out at once. I plan on using this service after my surgery. I figure it's cheaper than buying clothes I won't wear much and take up space I don't have.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
