Ok my mom is 50 and is now 5 weeks post op and she can't eat real food really. When she eats single meats she throws up. She's not having issues with processed meats its just single meats. She says she feels like she's always hungry and when she does eat her stomach hurts. Anyone else have this issue?

I can't eat most meats if I do not chew them really, really slowly, and eat only very, very small portions and I am over a year and a half post-op. I couldn't tolerate meat at all for the first few months. I think because it is so dense and sometimes quite dry, my stomach felt like I was choking it, so it produces that saliva goop and then pukes the meat right back out.

When she eats though, her stomach shouldn't hurt. I would feel nauseous fairly frequently, but there was never actual pain in my stomach. Sometimes to consider talking to her doctor about...

meats take a long time to build up to. I think I was four months in before I could tolerate meats like steak and chicken. I was able to digest them for years after that, but here at my six-year anniversary I now find my stomach can't tolerate them, and i throw them up about an hour or two after eating.

You have to accept that there may be some difficult-to-digest food that your new pouch just can't handle anymore. I used to love raw carrots as a snack food, but I was never able to handle them post-VSG.

I would suggest waiting awhile, then gently introducing small amounts of meat, cut up into small pieces and chewed as much as possible before swallowing.
