I am 16 days post op and every time I bend over my port is hurting me.

I can even feel it when I'm lying in bed.

Does anyone know if this is just because something is healing or will it always be like that unless I talk to my doctor and he makes some changes?

Hmm...it's early days yet. You are not yet 3 weeks post-WLS. Maybe you need to be a wee bit more gentle with your self..?

In terms of port 'pain' - Is it actually "PAIN", or is it merely awareness? I'm 5 months out from being banded, and depending on the day, I can TOTALLY feel my port. It even moves around - ! I've had a few episodes that last several hours in length of sensing a 'stitch" in my port - - the way you feel a stitch in your side if you run/walk too fast. Weird and kind of "ouch" but not 'pain' per se.

Like you, I can feel my port when I lie flat in bed.

Is your sensation more pain, or 'awareness'? Like, "Oh, here is my port. It's sticking out today! Wow! And it's really saying HELLO right now...I feel you, port of mine!" Or is it "Holy SH#T this SUCKS and HURTS and I need to take something for the pain"?

If it's the latter, this is something important to talk to your surgeon/medical team about.

Thank you for your reply.

It's like if you were bruised on your arm and you keep hitting it.. that kind of pain.

But now when I reading through your post and thinking about what kind of pain I'm having, I guess it's just bruising around the port. I guess my body is just getting used to it.

I don't have to take any pain killers for the pain, so I guess I'd call it a soft pain.

I guess I'm maybe a little impatient ...

Good that you can identify the pain - more of a bruise sensation. I say give it time. Your little body has been through a lot getting the surgery, and, laporoscopic or not, it's still an invasive procedure that can take a lot out of you...and has a significant recovery period (for most of us, anyway..).

If its tenderness around the port site (or incision site) this is perfectly normal and will become less and less noticeable each day.

This tenderness is a normal part of the process, however if your pain does NOT subside, please contact your surgeon for advice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
