I'm driving myself crazy

ok I had my surgery 5/11 and I've lost 18lbs. Tomorrow will begin my 2nd week and for the last 5 days I haven't lost a single pound. I know I shouldn't weigh everyday but I have been. I know there's the 3 weeks stall but I'm not even in my 2nd week. I am still drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day and getting about 65-70 grams of Protein per day. is there anything else I can change, am I doing something wrong?

As I understand it, for every significant drop in weight the body "resets". The weight will come off but maybe not as rapidly as you would like. You didn't mention exercise, are you walking? Go a little further every day, not only will it help to lose but you need to build your strength back. You are still recovering from surgery so know that also.

The surgery is a tool not the answer, so look at all components of what you are doing. Good luck!!

I saw in another thread, and then read a related article that talk about the fact that your body can only absorb 10-20 gr of Protein in an hour. Anything above that is converted to glucose and then fat. It seems the key to proper protein intake is to get no more than 20 gr per hour so if you are getting more, you may be taking three steps back. Information like this is why I love this website.

Relax and trust in the process. This is coming from a gal 14 months post-op who had the same worries as everyone else on the board. "Am I getting enough Protein and Water? ", "Am I losing fast enough?", "Will this stall ever end?!??" I was a slow loser throughout the entire process and constantly compared myself to others and what they're were achieving. What I can tell you is that I was able to reach my goal weight within a year with little effort. I had plenty of stalls along the way and I just continued doing what I was doing. Some weeks I wouldn't lose a pound and then I would see a 5 pound drop on the scale. I lost the majority of my weight the first 6 months post surgery. The amount you lose each week decreases the closer you get to your goal weight. Towards the end it would take me 2 months to lose 6 pounds!

Most of us come to the process with years of failed attempts to lose weight. It's hard not to worry that we may just be the one person who "fails" at WLS. I know I worried about this! All that worry I had was for nothing. I woke up one day at my goal weight. One day you will too and I can't wait until that day comes for you! Make sure to update this thread and let us know when that day comes!!!! ????❤????

I think your answer lies in the title of your post. Relax, step away from the scale, keep following your program faithfully, and resolve not to drive yourself crazy. You are doing fine.

That is totally how I feel!!!!! I guess after so much unsuccessful dieting I was just feeling like this was gonna fail too.....I think I'm gonna hide my scale for a while and just trust the process.

I am 4 weeks post op with the very same concerns as you. I put my scale away yesterday cus its driving me crazy. Thanks for the post and the responses. Its nice to know that I'm not alone. My stall came after 9 days. :(. Good luck to you. I hope you see results soon.

Yes, you're weighing every day. Stop doing that. Seriously. You won't have any stalls if you don't get on the scale. I stepped on the scale about 6 times in the first 3 months, so I never had a 3 week stall. The scale didn't help me lose 100 pounds. I did that by eating healthy, drinking Water, taking my Vitamins and being active. That's ALL you have to do.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
