Feeling Hunger?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else feel that hunger strikes them more at a particular time of the day??

I am not yet at full restriction with my band - I'm getting there but not there yet.

I am trying to have quite small meals for every meal of the day. I find thought that if my Breakfast isn't substantial enough that I get 'peckish' throughout the day. It's sometimes less than 3 hours before I am looking for my next meal and this in turn leads to snacking.

I'm trying really hard to not have bread throughout the working week, but for Breakfast, toast seems to be the only thing that gets me through to 4 hours.

Does anyone have a suggestion for me of a substantial breakfast that doesn't involve bread??

If I can fill up a bit more at breakfast, I should snack a lot less through the day - if at all!!!

I do find that scrambled eggs with a bit of cheese, Tomato and mushroom fills me, but I'd prefer to not have eggs every day of the week.

Help me please...

if you can tolerate bread than a slice of bread shouldn't be a problem. whole wheat bread is good for you. vegetables have carbs so a little carb in the morning as bread, to me, is a okay. I like a egg on toast. I just don't use butter on my toast. I let the yolk moisten the bread. meals should be 300 to 400 calories each. you will be able to eat your bread and stay under those calories. my worst time of day for feeling hungry and sometimes helpless is at night. I have horrible brain hunger while watching prime time tv.

I invested in a Good Blender......every morning, I make myself a "Smoothie" starting with 35 grams of Protein, add fresh or frozen fruit...usually mixed berries, 1/2 banana, Peanut Butter, chocolate, just about ANYTHING your imagination can come up with....mix it with 8 ozs of skim milk, almond milk, or just Water....

I've been doing this for years now... you don't need WLS to do this, there are tons of people I know who follow this...my health club has a "juice Bar" where they make all sorts of smoothies - juices you can pick from a menu.....

All that Protein and other nutrients....try to match that with eggs, toast, or any other solid foods you can come with to match it! Not to mention how much you would have to eat....

Also, as a banded person, I cannot eat anything in the morning...usually not until around 10 am....but after having a smoothie, I'm good to go all day....

Try adding 6 almonds to your breakfast it will or might keep you feeling hungry for an extra hour.

Thanks for all your advice, I am thinking the hunger is more due to the fact that I am not yet at full restriction. I find that by the time I get to work at 8.30am that I am famished and more than ready for breakfast. When I have the right restriction, I would probably be happier to wait a bit longer for breakfast. For now, I am willing to try all of your suggestions - anything to avoid snacking...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
