The perfect morning cup of coffee....I wish

Recommended Posts

I'm in Kansas. It's raining and dreary and cool. I'm up, my husband is sleeping in. My yorkie (Lucy) is snoring at my feet, and I am craving the perfect cup of coffee. I would settle for the perfect cup of Decaf coffee. I almost brewed it, but I got out my bariatric bible that the nutritionist gave me, and it clearly states to wait 2 months. UGH!!!!! So, I'm sipping the perfect bottle of natural spring Water instead. When did YOU have your first cup of coffee or decaf after your sleeve surgery?

WannaB....I know that every nutritionist says something different, but my doctor says we can have coffee when we are up to it. By nature I am a tea drinker...but I do so love that first cup of coffee in the morning to get me going. I have been having it the past three days, and it is delicious! So, have a cup, but don't be surprised if you can only drink half of it!

I waited 2 weeks, for Decaf black coffee. I was allowed decaf coffee or tea from the beginning. I put instant decaf coffee in my Protein Shake for Breakfast. It's sooo yummy! Sometimes I'll enjoy just a cup of decaf coffee too. If your a true coffee lover Starbucks Via instant Italian roast is really full bodied. You won't know your drinking decaf.

I was drinking Decaf tea as soon as I came home from the hospital.

I just recently had a cup of coffee. For me it wasn't about when I should have coffee it was more about all the stuff I put IN the coffee.

I have a saying(hopefully this doesn't offend anyone). "I like my coffee like I like my women... sweet and light colored".

Pre-surgery that meant in a typical cup of coffee at work I was adding 4 to 5 of the little International Delight French vanilla Creamers in my coffee. Each one is 30 cal, 5g carbs, 2g fat and 5g of sugar. That meant I was consuming 150 cal, 25g carbs, 11g fat and 25g of sugar. Sometimes I would have 2 cups. YIKES

Now in that same cup I will add one Splenda packet and 3 International Delight Half and Half. This dropped the count to 34 cal, 1g carbs, 3g fat and 0g of sugar. I can live with this.

@@OneDollarBill EXACTLY! I used to drink my coffee with a little stevia and International Delight Stone Cold Creamery flavor. I never measured. I just want to have a cup of black with stevia. I'll take decaf.....just need the flavor and warmth. I'm staying away from the creamers.....they will make me fail!!! I guarantee it.

My doc was adamant that I could start drinking regular coffee as soon as I felt I could tolerate it. His reasoning: so much is denied to us post-op patients. He can't think of a clinical reason to avoid caffeine, as long as we're staying hydrated and getting enough Protein. Which I am, on both counts.

So here I am, 5 days post-op, drinking some coffee with some sugar-free Torani Syrup in it, and enjoying it quite a lot.

I had no postop coffee rules, other than what my sleeve allowed. I was drinking Decaf tea as soon as I got home, but whenever I'd try coffee, it would hurt. I just kept trying and was finally able to drink it at about 4 months postop. Now I have 1-2 large (20oz) travel mugs of decaf coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 every day. (The decaf part is just my preference because caffeine affects me pretty strongly)

I haven't had any restriction on me regarding coffee. They served it to me in hospital the day after surgery (without milk for the first couple of days). I don't drink as much of it now as I used to and tend to only have half a cup. It's something I'm glad I never had to give up. :)

I think it will be ok. The only way I can drink my Protein Shake is by making "coffee milk" I either take a lean 25 vanilla bean flavor or muscle milk vanilla flavored Protein shake, pour it into a 32 oz cup, 1 pack of splenda and the rest filled with coffee. I sip on this all morning and it taste delish and tummy doesnt mind it one bit. Hope this helps????

After about four weeks, I started having a tall skinny caramel latte from Starbucks. I've only done it three times since surgery, 3/16/15. But each time, it was worth it. I needed the caffeine to stay awake! I used to have a standing order for a Grande skinny caramel latte. I've cut back, but I truly miss the caffeine a good cup of coffee offered.

in the hospital it was only Decaf coffee and tea. I haven't been forbidden to have reg coffee, just in moderation and with only sugar free extras. I drink mine black & strong, unless it is cracker barrel and I add anything I can find to get the taste more to my liking. I think it may have chicory or something added.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
