MassageMini 31 Posted May 22, 2015 My back aches. Did anyone else have back pain through the weight loss stage? I've been a slacker, I've worked hard before, and it doesn't feel surgical.
IcanMakeit 1,318 Posted May 23, 2015 I experienced a lot of back pain after losing about 80 lbs. For me, the cause was the loss of my large abdomen, which used to support my heavy breasts somewhat. Without that "shelf," the weight of my breasts caused severe back pain. For me, the cure was breast reduction surgery. My back has been great since then. KristenVSG2014 1,872 Posted May 23, 2015 Your body may be trying to adapt to a new gait with your weight loss. I would suggest asking a knowledgable doctor/chiro/physical therapist for advice. My chiro warned me about this and taught me to keep my pelvis (bucket) in a neutral position (don't spill the Water from your bucket). It has helped strengthen my core and lower back. shikydaniaz 13 Posted May 23, 2015 How long ago was your surgery?? If it's recent might be caused due to bad position. I had my surgery 12 days ago and my back is killing me but I know it's because I hunch all the time. If I stand up or sit straight I feel like I'll pull the stitches so I walk and sit in odd positions... gotta fix that soon =P
amazon 579 Posted May 23, 2015 yes, I'm told it is quite common. It was discussed recently in my WLS support group. Our bodies are going through a big adjustment, as others have pointed out. Generally, I think we will adjust over time as other muscles gain strength where needed. Core training is important. But if you think there's an underlying problem, I'd suggest getting yourself checked out.
skinnyrita 188 Posted May 31, 2015 I am 16 days out of my surgery date and I have also developed a muscle spasm type pain in my shoulder blade area. I never thought about my shifting weight causing that but it makes sense doesn't iit? I have been taking my PrescriptionTylenol to help with pain, and I' walking as prescribed. The pain is sometimes very intense and has a burning sensation ( nerve pain) accompanying it. I'm due for post op follow up on Tuesday and this is definitely on my discussion list!
