Well, the seminar was good and I got to talk to the doctor. I have lost 27 pounds since I my PCP a month go. I have been on a 900 calorie diet, high Protein, low carbs, low fat, no red meat and NO SWEETS! The doctor recommended the Sleeve for me. That's the GOOD news.

The BAD news is that till Dr Turnquest gets my records from and talks to my Liver doctor, he won't know if I will be able to have WLS. He said it depends on how much liver damage I have. (Autoimmune hepatitis and nonalcoholic cirrhosis. I will find out on June 5 when I go for my first meeting I with the dietitian. (I have to go for 4 sessions). So till June 5, I won't know anything definite. I don't wait well. LOLOL

Actually, I expected this to happen. I never asked my liver doctor how much damage I had. So I will be playing the waiting game once again.

SIGH.........

For me, the waiting was the hardest part of the game . The surgery and recovery was nothing compared to the waiting. Just like getting on a roller coaster - hold on tight and ride it out.

I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out for you.

I had this surgery to improve my kidney health. I had stage 3 kidney disease. It is now in remission.

It is very scary when your liver and kidneys are involved.

I will say a prayer for you!

Prayers would be appreciated. I don't want surgery if I could have uncontrolled bleeding which the doctor said could happen if I have too much liver damage. I want to get healthy not die...LOLOL!! I also have Hypothroidism and HAD drug induced Lupus (the doctor never figured what drug caused it but it went away which the other Lupus does not).

I'm a mess!!

I have been so down in the dumps today. Even though I KNEW Dr. Turnquest would have to get my records from/talk to my liver doctor before saying if he could do WLS on me, I am still disappointed. I am trying to figure out if it would be possible to lose a lot of weight without surgery and I really don't think I could. But what would be the alternative? There isn't one besides literally eating myself to death.

Prayer would be appreciated that I don't get depressed and blow it in the two weeks till I see the dietitian. I was ravenous today but kept to my allotted calories and managed to get most of the nutrients I was supposed to.

This waiting game is horrible and now I REALLY know first hand what others have/are going through. I am too old for this kind of thing!! :-)

Yes it is VERY scary. If I have to have Cirrhosis, I wish I could at least enjoyed some drinking! Just kidding of course.

I am so happy to hear you are in remission! Praise Him!! Thanks for sharing.

I also had a history of auto immune hepatitis/fatty liver. A few years on prednisone (that was good for 40 pounds) and a year on Immuran. My surgeon never asked for my records from my gatroenterologist. My surgeon used to work with her in the same practice before he started to specialize in bariatric. I have no idea if I have liver damage.

My liver numbers had gotten high again about 2 years before my sleeve. At my 3 month recheck post-op my numbers are on the lower end of normal. I think that the more recent high numbers were due to fatty liver not the auto immune issues.

I hope that your liver is healty enough for the surgery. Losing the weight may help your liver health.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
