Difference in Before WLS & After WLS

Recommended Posts

As I'm investigating WLS, it seems that everything you do post WLS is also what comprises a good weight loss program. If I can't reliably stick with a good diet or always gain the weight back, what changes this or makes it easier after surgery? In particular, I'm thinking about the sleeve but that may change.

For me it's the fact that I can't eat as much and sweets make me dump.

With the sleeve two things. You physically cannot eat large portions and production of the hunger hormone grehlin is greatly reduced.

With bypass, you get physically reduced capacity, maiabsorption of some food for the first few years and, for around 30-40% of people a very Nast reaction to sugars.

With the band, you have to eat slowly and this reduces quantity and dims hunger.

With DS, you get reduced capacity and a lot of permanent maiabsorption.

As I aged, I came to the point that even exercise combined with dieting could not drop the pounds. Years of obesity took a toll on my body and diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, severe acid reflux (GERD) reared its ugly head. There was no other choice. Luckily, this was the right choice.

@@KateP has it exactly right BUT, those changes are more impactful the first 6-18 months, the"honeymoon" period. I am 3.5 years post sleeve and maintaining but it is more effort than ever. However hard it is, with the sleeve it is possible whereas before I couldn't maintain a weigbtloss for more than a few months and certainly not in single digit clothing sizes.

My point is bariatric surgery really helps, it really is the best tool available for obese people to control their weight, but it still takes much effort.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
