Waiting for my surgery approval/date

Recommended Posts

Oh my!! I knew it was the 15th but didn't realize it was this close. The one thing I'm most nervous about is the immediate recovery from it like an hour after surgery. Other than that I'm ok...for now! Lol.

My hospital check-in time is 6:00am Monday morning. Not looking forward to getting up at 5:00am, but glad that my surgery will be early enough that the surgeon and his staff will be fresh, and I won't have to sit around all day waiting and freaking out.

I still have some things to do around the house tomorrow morning (wash towels & sheets, clean the bathroom, etc.), then I work in the afternoon, then I pick my mom up at the airport in the evening, so hopefully I'll keep busy enough tomorrow to not think about it too much!

@@lauraellen80, how are you doing?? I've been thinking about you!

I'm doing well! I came home Tuesday afternoon.

The worst part was definitely immediately after surgery, when I was pretty nauseated (and out of it). Once they gave me something for the nausea, it wasn't so bad. I was up and down a lot during the night to pee and uncomfortable from the gas. I used my heating pad behind my shoulders for the gas pain, and that helped a lot.

I've been able to get down my Protein shake, broth, Water, etc. without problems. Occassionaly I'll get kind of a spasmy, burpy thing when I take a sip, but it passes quickly.

I'm still sleeping in a recliner, as my deeper incision pulls when I try to lie down in bed or on the couch.

Definitely looking forward to moving on to my full liquids phase--I've never been so excited to eat pudding!

Lol! Bet you never thought pudding was so exciting!! I hear the worst part is right after surgery but it gets better. And that's what I remember from my husband surgery also. He was shaking like crazy. I was scared. But he says he doesn't even remember that..well I do!! I'm glad you're doing good!! Keep me posted on your weight loss!! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
