How can I be consuming 400 calories/day and not losing weight?

Recommended Posts

Only 10 days out from surgery and following my liquid plan as directed. Weird thing, I saw the immediate and initial weight loss associated with the pre-surgery diet (and then surgery itself) a couple days after the surgery. But now, about a week and a half after surgery, I haven't lost a pound in 3 days. I'm not upset as much as I truly don't understand how a 400 pound guy isn't shedding weight like crazy eating only 400 calories a day (of which about 50% is protein). Any ideas??

First, everything is fine and it will come off! Next, are you hitting your Water and Protein goals yet? It is so important to get your Protein and Water in, without your body struggles more to shed the weight. It will still come off but slower.

It sounds like you aren't getting enough Protein if you are only getting 200 calories of protein a day. It's important for recovery and weight loss to reach your protein goal every day.

Wow - I never really did the math but after some research it looks like I'm definitely coming up short on Protein.

The Institute of Medicine recommends that adults get a minimum of 0.8 grams of Protein for every kilogram of body weight per day, for an unstressed body, to keep the body from slowly breaking down its own tissues [39]. That's about 8 grams of protein for every 20 pounds of body weight.

Thank you to all for your insight and encouragement :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
