I am personally not counting either. I started counting calories but am losing weight nicely so stopped and have continued to lose nicely. I used fitday and found it ridiculous to try to find what I was eating on their pre planned foods to pick from. I eat until I am satisfied and then MOST of the time...stop....LOL...have had a few times when my brain said, um noooo you need to keep eating but then I was miserable for being too full. I am one of the lucky ones I guess though because I have restriction without a fill. Good luck in finding what works best for you. I think that is the key, everyone is different. Deanna

I dont count anything, its not my dieting personality. But if I had to, I'd count calories.

I'd keep away from white processed carbs though.

I guess I've crept back up to about 1800 calorie a day now, I'm maintaining easily on that, but I really do need to cut right down if I want to lose anymore weight, once you're in your healthy weight range like I am, with a big weight loss behind you, it gets diabolically hard to lose anything.

I have avoided counting calories till now but I think I need to psyche myself up to do it.

Oh, Fitday drove me freaking INSANE. All the foods on it are American of course so I couldnt find anything that I eat. I'd have to enter every single item of food as a custom food, I gave that up after five minutes, lol.

I personally am counting calories. It was a total pain at the beginning, but it is getting easier and easier. I have a little notebook that I carry around with me all day and I record absolutely EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth. When I first started I was SHOCKED at how many calories I was consuming even though I didn't feel like I was eating much food. At the end of every day I log my entries onto the website mycaloriecounter.com and it helps me to keep thing in perspective. Now that I have been counting calories so faithfully for the past 6 months I feel like for the first time I am in total control of what I am eating and the weight is finally starting to come off steadily. It is also a great help that I finally feel like I have hit the sweet spot as far as my band restriction goes.

I do count on occasion, its hard not to when you've grown up forever on a diet isnt it?

I find the opposite - I'm shocked by how little I eat. I keep feeling bad about the way I tend to pick in the afternoons, not really feeling "hungry" but just peckish. When I've counted I realise i've eaten like 400 calories all freaking day, no wonder I'm peckish. It reminds me to have a good Breakfast and a good lunch, maybe 800 calories worth and then the peckishness miraculously disappears.

I do think you need to be aware of what you're eating, for sure.

I always shoot for 1000, but if I hit 1200 I don't beat myself up :biggrin1:

I have been dieting my whole life, so I thought I knew how many calories I was eating before I started REALLY keeping track. But I think I might have been in denial a bit or sometimes didn't count everything. But now that I have been more serious about it, I think it has made a huge difference for me.

I still have a lot of weight to lose, which is why I am trying to keep my calories around 1000 per day.

I aim for about 600 calories daily, I don't really count carbs but I only eat low carb 99% of the time. I just feel better when I do that. I'm sure I'm under 20 carb grams daily.

I keep things simple, I have a spreadsheet and I track the food I ate, # of calories, # of Protein gms, and weight. I do track my weight on Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate because it gives me a nifty graph to watch. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
