Hello! I am also going to Mexico June 3, for gastric sleeve surgery. This is my first post. I have been lurking everywhere learning about it. Will you be in TJ?

What's the recovery time in Mexico? Are you discharged the same day or what?

June 17th in Mexico. I know that I am in the hospital for 2 nights. I am good with that they do 3 leak tests before u go to the recovery condo for another night. I chose to stay an extra 2 days because of the flying plus it will be like a mini holiday...lol well maybe not. Good luck everyone

Had VSG at Obesity Control Center in TJ 17 months ago. 1 night stay at hospital, 2 nights at the Marriot. Spent those 2 days shopping and hanging out with my sister. Drain removed and barium fluoroscopy leak test third day before flying home. Easy, pain free recovery. Back to work at active, physical job in 7 days. Lost 100 pounds in less than 8 months and easily maintaining 10 pounds below goal. OCC provided excellent postop followup and I have had no long term complications.

There is an entire subforum on here for Mexico and self pay patients with a LOT of threads you may want to read.

I'll be getting sleeved in Tijuan as well. I'm still doing a lot of research on the Dr's. I know there are many good surgeons in TJ. I just want to make sure I choose the right one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
