who ever says WLS is the easy way out!

Recommended Posts

who ever states that having WLS is taking the easy way out does not know how much harder this is. Its hard to relearned how to eat, feeling sick when u new stomach does not like something, still have to work out hard in order to achieve your goals, blood pressure going up when ever u eat to fast, insomnia after surgery and the list can keep going.. so when ever someone will judge you and says you took the easy way out with WLS they have not idea what we go threw ...

p.s. my grammar is not very good looking.. lol :P

The only people who say that are the people who haven't experienced it or done any kind of research about it.

It was my decision and mine alone. I only took advice and consideration from other weight loss surgery patients. My husband was one of them.

I look at it this way. When I would tell people, some (especially those who haven't had the surgery) would have to throw in their two cents. Fine no problem. But I take it with a grain of salt.

If I was thinking of becoming a race car driver, why would I listen to anyone who hasn't driven a race car?

You've done great in your weight loss thus far! Keep up the great work! And yes, it's NOT EASY!

My #1 pet peeve comment is, "Well, I'd lose weight too if I ate like that!". I just smile politely & remind myself that jail stripes don't look good on me. ????. Because honestly, we have more strength than anyone knows...cause guess what? We can totally eat like that & rock it! ????

Great words of wisdom from everyone. I'm still debating on spreading the word. I had my surgery 2 days ago. A few close friends and my family are very supportive. I'm very lucky to have them. I just need to prepare myself on what to say when an acquaintance asks me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
