July 22 RNY Buddy needed

Recommended Posts

Maybe we can be support buddies through this journey and hopefully share more successes than troubles. What procedure are you having?

Oh nevermind. I just reread it. How much weight do you have to lose? I have about 150. Im trying not to think about the things that can go wrong but its in the back of my head all the time. Trying to focus on the good stuff. Hope you are too????

I have to lose 80lbs. Last week when I found out I was approved and given a date I started stressing and thinking about all that can happen, the possible long term side effects, struggles and what not. I started giving myself anxiety to the point of almost hyperventilating . This week has been better. I keep tell myself that it will be fine. Most importantly I'm trying to stay strong in faith and keeping a positive outlook for a positive outcome for my good and that of my family. Every time I catch myself starting to worry, I tell myself God has this.

You have the perfect attitude! I'm still kind of bummed that this is my new reality, but I'm staying positive by imaging the pounds melting off!

@@Pinkpeonies1 I am so glad to know I am not the only one that's feeling this way. As soon as the Drs office called with my official surgery date, I started having an anxiety attack, so bad that my chest felt tight and I was having a hard time breathing. It took a few days for me to get a handle on my fear of the unknown.....but I keep telling myself that Gods got this. Everything happens for a reason. Good luck!

It sure does... in my case, I've been noticing things falling into place which makes me think it was meant to be. I'll give you one example. During the Doctor's Talk at my surgeon's office, someone came in to the office to talk about supplements we will need after surgery and gave us all a form to fill out stating that we could try to have our insurance cover them and get monthly shipments to our door. If approved, we'd hear from them in a day or two. 1 1/2 weeks went by, my surgery was approved and no word on the supplement approval. I called my surgery coordinator for a contact number, called my surgeon's office and no one had any idea what I was talking about. I searched online for anything similar and nothing, so I gave up hope. Somehow I ended on my app store looking for a support group and found this one. One of the first forums I came across, a lady was talking about nasal b-12 and how her insurance covered it and named a website. I immediately did my search and the pharmacy is based on the East Coast . I called them, asked if my insurance would cover this item. The only information they asked was my name and date of birth. Surprisingly, the person on the other side of the phone says, "We have your information provided by your doctor (Dr. Laport) and yes, your insurance will cover all the supplements with a $15 monthly co-pay." It turns out that this is the company that originally gave us the form to fill out. Isn't that something, after my dr.'s office had no clue, I find info on Barriatric Pal, pharmacy on east coast, and they had my info?

If anyone is interested you can check out the website at www.procarerx.com . The site does not provide Bariatric Supplement info so it's best to call the number listed. Ask to speak to the Nascobal Department. Nascobal is the name of the B-12 spay. However, I was approved for the B-12 nasal spray, Iron, Multivitamin, Calcium and I believe Vitamin D. Your insurance may or may not cover it but if it does, it helps to calculate what you'll be spending on over the counter stuff and compare it to the copay.

Blessing and Good luck!

I'm scheduled for a bypass on July 22. This has been a 7 month journey since making the decision to have wls. I'm a 39 year old single mom of 3 and school counselor. I've only told a couple of friends, my parents, and my boss. My ex and others will just have to wonder, I guess!

I'm making the decision bc I want to be the best mom I can - active, fun, and healthy. After a heart issue, rheumatoid arthritis, an orbital tumor, stomach ulcers, a huge hernia, and sleep apnea I'm ready to shed this fat suit and take control of my life and health. I'd also like to feel confident enough with my body to travel more, date, and be strong and healthy.

I'm nervous about the pre-surgery diet that starts in 3 days and about the length of recovery. I don't want to spoil the last few weeks of my kid's summer vacation with feeling crappy and being stuck at home. I'm praying for a week of yuck, a week of better, then feeling ready for anything (within reason).

I have really enjoyed this group/app and have been seeking information and reassurance here for months. I didn't actually 'join' until yesterday, though! Any advise about gastric bypass recovery, things to expect, and success stories will be appreciated!

@ pinkpeonies Wow, thanks for that information and good luck you have a great attitude about this and I love that. I'm excited but I feel little like @@Gumpgal was explaining. Also, for me it's exciting & scary at the same time a fear of the unknown, I believe is my problem. Reading so much information on what good things can happen but also what bad things could happengives mixed feelings or ups and downs with how you feel about what's going to happen soon. But, as of last night I feel I am ready and this is what I need to be healthy. I know it won't be easy but that's OK this is the path that God has set me on and I will walk it with his strength behind me. Right now everything in my life has changed moved to new state, husband is military but he is stationed 5 hours away from where we currently live (didn't want to live in the area that he was being stationed, nothing is there) will be changing up job field soon, so back to school for me, I'm 40 and my life is totally changing and on July 27th my surgery will assist in more changes .

You're too kind! I just turned 44 last week and God willing, I'm hoping to start this phase of my life healthy and fit. Wow, you do have a lot going on. Just make sure you have plenty of support during your post-op period. Hopefully you'll have someone with you during the first few weeks for moral support being your husband is stationed 5 hrs away. If anything, you'll find plenty of support here from people going through the same thing but it's always nice to have someone physically there. Send me a p.m the morning of you're surgery and I'll make sure to say a prayer for you.

Thank you, and I will p.m you when it's time. My husband will be with me during and after surgery he took leave so he can stay home with me, and I will have lots of help as my children are 11,16,18, 23 & 24 I'm of course gonna milk this to the end LOL . How about you, do you also have a wonderful support system ready? Although my support system is small (I only told a few people about my wls) they are great. I'll be sending up prayer for you on your surgery day. Oh happy belated birthday!!!!

Thank you for the birthday wishes and for keeping me in prayer as well. I'm glad to hear that you have a great support system. As for me, for the most part yes. My husband works for a small company that does not pay for days off so he will be there the day of surgery and the next day to drive me home. However, he'll be back to work after that. My girls 11,12 and 15, are on vacation but are off to sports practice and games all day long. My mother will be driving them back and forth and that alone is big help. I think I'll enjoy the peace and quite during the day and enjoy their company in the evening. A major plus is that I'll be on liquids for 3 weeks so I don't have to worry about making my meals. My husband is pretty good in the kitchen so he and the kids will be fine. As far as people who know about my surgery aside from hubby, my kids and mother... I've only told two co-workers who have both gone through bypass and are of great help and support. Feel free to p.m me when ever you want to talk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
