Stupid question about buying men's clothing in regular stores (not big and tall)

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is for you goal weight guys who need tall clothing. I have been fat since three years old, in elementary school I was a "super husky". I have always shopped, for 60 years (64 now) in big and tall stores or catalogs. I am 6'4", size 18 shoe, etc. I have to have tall sizes.

I have lost 42# in a month, and have already gone through 2 sizes but am still firmly in the big and tall store/catalog zone, but the weight is coming off very fast and I can see getting below a 46 waist and into 1 XL Tall shirts by mid summer.

Here is my stupid question...do regular men's clothing stores sell long pants and tall shirts? I have no idea. I have never bought clothing in a regular store. I could just go into a store and look but I live a long way from any stores here in rural America.

Thanks!

Not only am I not in the U.S. But I am also not a tall man!!!!! Just wanted to say, you shouldn't have a problem. My husband is 6' 6" and very slim. When I first met him, back in 1970, buying clothes was a nightmare! Specialist shops or tailor-made only. And always very expensive.

But these days, so many shops do extra length trousers and sleeves. My BIL is 6' 4" and can shop in most stores; DH's extra two inches make it a bit harder but even our major chains like Marks and Spencer's do extra length.

Not a stupid question. Some of us short fat guys end up buying Tall sizes just to keep our shirts tucked in. The good news is that most major discount stores like Walmart and Kmart carry tall sizes. JCPenney carried tall sizes for decades both in store and in there Big and Tall catalog. Last time I went to Kohl's I was surprised they were also catering to the ever growing American waist size. If you check online, many retailer's websites can tell you what they have in-stock. Or you can cheat and wear bowling, Hawaiian, or 'Mexican Wedding' style shirts that are meant to be worn not tucked. Charlie Sheen helped make that look acceptable. Happy shopping.

Hey, I found I just can't win for losing....... :( When I was huge.....I could never find the 2x and 3x sizes anywhere and when I did they was a poor selection and were never on sale or cost more than the others. Now I have lost all the weight and wear a medium or large and those sizes always seem to be "out of stock". Go figure.

But, I'm not complaining......I just smile.....still not believing I'm shopping in the normal sizes....feels great. ;)

Good good. Out of stock in the regular sizes. ;) Somehow that makes up for all the times I could only find one XXXL shirt and it was some weird camouflage pattern that made me look like a large bush.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
