I am 51 and I was sleeved on Monday, June 15th. No problems or nausea. Using these first few weeks to just heal. I am so glad I did this. I will admit that it is hard for me to comprehend what life will be like without the restraints of carrying Around two of me. So glad I did this!!

Boy... Something about the 50's brings out a " I'm going to get this under control forever" attitude In a lot of posters. Me too! I had it with the ups and downs of weight programs. See- saws.

It would appear most of us ahem- mature WLS gals are a bit more serious about total lifestyle changes IMHO.

I'm working on 9 years this year and it isn't always smooth but it is forever! and I have the time and will to work on this....

The sixties look way healthier than my late forties and you can color me content!!!! Life is fun. Not a chore to slog through ... Attitude!!!!

Got my sleeve at 62 years old on June 8th. I am down 24 pounds and ALL pain on the tennis court is gone! I think of putting a backpack with 2 10 pound bags of sugar and a five pounder and trying to run and play. 1 month and what a difference already! Love it!

@@Queen of Crop I have your book! It inspired me and I read it before surgery and am reading it again week by week along with my journey. Thank you!

Thank you Linaka! I was only one year older than you when I had my surgery, I am now almost 62 still at goal and living a dream life...(that would not have been possible without this surgery). The honest truth, my life is better is than any dream I ever had...I should write a book POST op....any way, very nice of you to make that comment; I put a lot of effort into that book in hopes that it would do just that; inspire others. Keep me posted on your progress.

@@Queen of Crop ... every time I see a post by you, I feel like: "There's my friend whom I've never met!"

I don't know when hubby and I will next revisit Amsterdam, but I'd love to meet up with you when we do.

I just met an online VSG friend this week for the first time in real life in New York, and it was so much fun. There are some wonderful people on these boards -- people who have such courage and ambition and dreams for their lives. Good on us!

And quoting Dickens: "God bless us, everyone!" ;)

HI VSG ann...oh yes, we have both been hanging out here for a while, haven't we? What a journey...and you and I started and ended at about the same weight...good for us! And oh yes, please please come to Amsterdam! I have met several people from the forum and it's always such a wonderful connection. And life is to Celebrate our achievements....someone asked me the other day to name my top 5 peak moments in my life; and having this surgery and getting healthy of course was one of them!

Hope to see you on this side of the pond!

I was 51. Best decision I ever made. Yes, I worry about flabby skin and I'm already seeing batwings for goodness sake. But I'm feeling SO much better, coming off meds, have more energy and am looking forward to life again. It was worth it.

I'm just beginning my journey. I don't have a surgery date yet. I will be 54 when I have it.

I've done many many diets..

Part of me tells myself.. If I could just eat natural healthy food, nothing packaged... I wouldn't need the surgery... But then my husband reminds me that I need something more permanent so the weight stays off

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
