Goodbye to beer and pizza?

Recommended Posts

I am four weeks out since my surgery and do not miss coffee, tea, beer, bread or sugar. I've even stopped craving sugar. I know I can't have pizza. So I am subsisting on Protein shakes, broths, and just started some pureed foods. I was a diet soda addict and drank copious amounts of coffee and splenda / truvia. pizza and beer are the last things on my mind.

@@Nikasio I am with you... I work the night shift... so diet coke/diet mt dew and coffee were on agenda. I could easily drink a 52 ounce gas station drink and 3-5 more liter bottle plus coffee every day... now... I occasionally have Decaf coffee and haven't had any soda since sunday march 1, 2015.

I had a small slice for hitting Onederland. I really really really wanted it. I swear some days I lived for the thought that when I hit Onederland, I was going to have a slice of pizza, lol.

Once in a while I'll have a few bites but it really doesn't have the appeal it once did for me. I don't want to start eating it out of habit so I mostly stay away from it.

I don't do carbonated ever so I can't help you with that.

I've eaten some pizza, mostly pick off the cheese/toppings part, and leave the crust behind. As for beer, I'm a bar mamager, and wanted to try a new ipa we started serving, figured one sip would be ok, NOT!!! Hurt before it even got down all the way. Now, margaritas and bourbon or scotch on the rocks... totally different story! Lol. I guess everyone is different, gotta figure out what you can or can't handle for yourself.

I tried a Corona and one sip did me in as far as pain wise. now hard liquor and mixed drinks go down just fine! but got to account for the calories. pizza I have like one to two bites depending on the pizza toppings.

food funerals. I would prefer a good old Irish wake instead. Things get said, alcohol is consumed and deceased is bad mouthed as much as they are praised. So here is a toast to my old friend pizza. You were delicious and had so many of the bad ingredients. Sugary sauces, processed wheat, salty pepperoni, and questionable mafia cheese. You will be missed you old sod.

Why would you say good bye to beer and pizza? This isn't a death sentence for any food at all, enjoy! I love coke and pizza, I just don't eat an entire pie and a six pack of coke. One peice of pizza and one coke and I'm a happy camper! I had both a piece of pizza and a coke two months out, and have never looked back. The best part, you don't even want to eat that entire pizza anymore, and are happy with just a little bit.

Why say goodbye to pizza and coke? Gee, hidden simple sugars, processed wheat, bad fats and caffeine. Things that will help you get off the wagon. Its like sneaking cigarettes, if one don't hurt you, two won't, then it is three, four,...etc. :)

it was more a joke about food funerals than a serious rejection of the occasional slice.

I'm 7 months out from bypass. I have no problem with carbonation (pain wise) I know I should not do it because of empty calories. I've drank as many as 6 low carb beers. I do not plan on doing this again for awhile as my weight loss has s l o w e d. Don't slap my hand, I've already done it to myself!

Can't do beer due to carbonation. pizza - just one slice eaten very slowly. It'sall worth it for me.

I just ate the toppings off two pieces of Hawaian pizza. It was good and I do it at least once a week!

I occasionally take a bite of the crust but like most starches/carbs I just don't like them anymore. I never thought that would happen as I was a serious carb addict prior to surgery. I also don't really care for beer anymore either. (And I was a 12 pack at a time kind of guy prior to surgery....)

I love my sleeve!

To put it simply, for me,...I CAN'T eat pizza....oh sure I could if I wanted to but it would take me 20 minutes to get through one slice...with the risk of getting stuck with every swallow....so when you consider the nutritional value, Why Bother?

Plus, the band controls my portions...how much I can eat. So why blow that window on pizza?

There are other foods that are the same way for me....and most, if not all, are not good for me in the first place....

And for that reason, I am 100% successful both in weight loss and health......I cannot do the things I used to do that made me lazy and fat....a place where I will never go to again as long as I have this band.

And for me, THAT's what it's all about! A life changer....

(I love it when the staff in my Dr.'s office tells me stories about people getting un-filled so they can enjoy things like chocolate Mud Pie, Cheeseburgers, and Pizza!

We have a good laugh if it wasn't so sad!)

Malibu makes a low carb piña colada, it was good. My former beer belly is calling me all sorts of names right now! I hang my head in shame. :(

My clinic nurse said that nothing stretches a pouch like carb. beverages. I don't know if a sleeve stretches the same way, but the bypass pouch can be stretched permanently over months of drinking. She demonstrated with a ballon over a bottle of pop she shook up...

I get sleeved on Monday, and I have a beer fridge with over 200 ice cold craft beers inside.

This topic made me think about them, and about giving them up. And it made me feel sad.

But just for a minute

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
