Hello, I am two weeks post op and am trying to figure out what kind of a permenant diet to be on once my post op is over. I am wondering if most of you eat fruits with carbs and other carbs ? I loose weight like crazy when doing low carb, the Atkins has been my only sucess in weight loss before my band but unfortunately I gained it all back and more once I started to eat lots of carbs again. I know my body and it works for me to do low carb but is it save for long term with a band or would I gain it back someday ? I am wondering if I should eat a variety of food , loose slower but still feel my carb addiction , just to be able to have variety. I know with a band it will still be hard for me to do that , its a real thing that really exsists with me. When on low carb I sleep all night with a weight watchers type diet I wake in the night wanting food feeling shaky until I get up and have a coupe crackers. Is there anyone that eats a reagular low carb diet ? Maybe a low carb , low fat would be good for met to do. I had a hard time when meeting with the nutritionist about so many servings of grain and carbs I dread it, I know I will crave more. Anyway sorry for rambling but as I get closer to regular food I want to do the right thing. Thanks so much Kim:)

I use fitday.com and I keep my healthy carb intake level at about 50-60% of my daily intake.

Nothing wrong with carbs. It's healthy to have a good balanced diet DAILY. As long as you eat healthy and watch those calories, the pounds will come off.

I tried Atkins too, low carb is not a way of life I can follow. It's easier for me to just pick healthy foods I like.

I'm an all things in moderation girl myself, and its worked well for me.

I really truly believe its healthier, I think the Protein levels talked about here are way extreme and possibly dangerous and that there's absolutely no need to cut good carbs from the diet.

In fact carbs like wholegrain bread are what make my band work well, they're what stay in my pouch and fill me up for hours, Protein just doesnt do it for me. It moves through very quickly.

I tend to do a little more of a South Beach Type Diet. I try to get in a my Protein and have plenty of veggies but I also eat good healthy carbs in moderation. When I stick to that I am losing between 3 and 5 pounds a week and I don't feel like I am on a diet, I am just making good choices.

I also do not watch my carb intake AT ALL!! I eat healthy carbs(brown rice, whole wheat tortillas, cous cous) I limit very strictly my high sugar carbs just because I am doing so much for myself health wise I do not want to screw it up by adding unnutritional food to my eating. I eat a variety of things and my favorite things to eat are avocados and plain whole almonds. These fill me up fast and stick with me a long time. Good luck on deciding on what to do. Deanna

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
