Hi Guys,

hope you are all well?

I had my gastric band fitted 2 months ago, weight loss and whole experience has been excellent to date... no complaints at all apart from port site pain.

It started 2 weeks ago after my first fill, it feels like stitch from exercise but that cannot be to fault as i've been taking it really steady and it only really comes on if I've ever stretched too much or have been sitting at work.. but I'm wondering if it really should be happening at all.

The pain is intermittent and comes on like a REALLY sharp stab that leaves me feeling quite sore and sick but once it abates it just feels like ive been punched so I'm assuming it may be muscular? I had a beautiful back massage on Saturday and felt no pain at all but only an hour or so later.. there it was again.

No idea if its from laying on it, crunching my stomach and putting pressure on the port area when sat or what but I wondering if anyone had experienced the same and if there is anything I can do to help it?

all help, as ever, will be greatly appreciated.

Very many thanks

D x

I see you got no relies so posted again - so I am answering just to reassure you your post is being read! I have no oersonal exoerience to share!

Port area pain is usually from pulling on a suture and early on things may be getting tighter as they heal and scar tissue us created. It can also be a pulled muscle. Maybe a tight waist band? Or lying on the port in bed?

Later on, unexplained pain round the port, if allied with swelling, heat, redness can be a symptom of erosion. The band eats into the tissue of the stomach, infection builds up and can travel along the tubing. Often this us the only sign of erosion. But on its own, it is probably one of the other causes!

If in doubt, ask your doctor.

Sounds like something to check with the doc. I've had tenderness at my port (if I eat too much, it feels like it's being pulled), but never intense sharp pains. I don't think any part of this process is supposed to be painful (it may not always be easy, but you shouldn't be suffering). So if you are experiencing pain, I would insist to your dr that they work with you to resolve it. If you live with it, it could turn into a more serious matter later, depending on what's causing the issue. Good luck!

Thanks guy, I'm sure it is nothing serious (she says hopefully).. The Docs did say that it may be the final sutures releasing as they dissolve but I thought they would have already gone by now with it being a few months post surgery.

Thanks for the input, I'll try and take it easy and see how it goes.. Just hope it settles soon as sad as it sounds I'm actually missing exercise and I NEVER thought I'd say that lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
