I am scheduled for my surgery in 2 days-I have a high BMI- 53. I won't make excuses but the two week Meal Replacement diet went horrible I was not able to adhere. I procrastinated quitting smoking even though I am not a heavy smoker... one or two a day plus vaping.. I'm now using 2 mg nicotine lozenges sporadically. now I'm 3 days out on a clear liquid diet which I am tolerating so far. Has anyone else gone through this...I'm very worried because I haven't done what I was supposed to but I am so ready to get this done and on with living healthier! Any thought or input would be appreciated.

It sounds like you haven't had surgery yet (it wasn't clear to me). What kind of help are you looking for? Are you looking for advice? Okay, call your surgeon's office and fess up. Be prepared for the consequences of your actions.

Speaking of consequences, here are a couple of statements to examine:

"the two week Meal Replacement diet went horrible I was not able to adhere"

"now I'm 3 days out on a clear liquid diet which I am tolerating"

It sounds like you have a mindset that needs some adjusting. You are making these choices; they are not things that are happening to you.

More: "I haven't done what I was supposed to but I am so ready to get this done and on with living healthier"

What makes you think you are going to live any healthier after surgery if you're not doing what you're supposed to do before surgery?

Some doctors won't continue thru surgery, if the liver is too fatty, which is one of the main reasons for the pre-surgical diet. Please remember why you are doing this surgery ~ the smoking, eating wrong food, etc is not going to help you with this "tool". Stay focused on the clear liquid diet and try to stay smoke-free.

I have faith that you will be able to do it, stay on plan and drink plenty of Water.

I am not s smoker but live in a state with a lot of smokers and know my surgeon will not operate on someone who is not nicotine free (including second-hand smoke). Also, he said if he goes in and the liver is too big he will not complete the surgery. There are very good reasons for the pre-op requirements.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
