I had the gastric sleeve surgery 4 days ago on Wednesday morning. I have been following an all liquid diet since Sunday before the surgery. I am walking every hour and drinking Water, clear Protein Drinks (isopure) and sugar free Popsicles. I weighed 227 at my pre-op appointment and I weight 230 today. Is this normal? My doctor also repaired a hiatal hernia and that pain and the gas pain have been intense at times but getting better. I'm just getting really discouraged. I know it's only 4 days out but I haven't eaten solid food in a week and I've gained weight!!

@@Sharon616 The hospital pumped you full of fluids. Give yourself a break from the scale for a while and just focus on recovery, and staying hydrated. It'll come off.

as wannab says, the scale will start to move soon - but try not to watch it.

Don't be disheartened - you are doing well, and i'm glad the pain is decreasing. It won't be long and you will be able to move about more...

Thank you! I got discouraged because I've been reading others' surgery stories and all the ones I've read so far began losing weight the week of surgery.

I came home from the hospital a whopping 17 pounds heavier than when I went in! So count yourself lucky that you are only 3 pounds heavier! The pounds will start to drop really soon! Good luck to you!

My surgery was on the 13th. I was weighed the morning of surgery at the hospital but that's it. They didn't weigh me after that because they said the same thing everyone else had posted that chances are you'll be up because of all the fluids they give you through your I.V. while you're in the hospital. I'm going to stay off the scale until I go to my one week post op visit with my surgeon.

Don't look at the scale in a week or two you will see clothes will start feeling loose.

Relax about the puffiness, it's fluids and gas, and you'll begin to slim down in 5-7 days (had my surgery on April 30).

I also had the hernia repair... That was more painful than the gad rectory. Hurts to take a deep breath. But getting better every dy. how are you handling the hernia aspect?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
