Did anyone have trouble taking in enough liquid? I had surgery Friday and I am having difficulty with the Protein shakes...it seems to be the volume of the shake. I am sipping Water all day long but can't seem to get much in. I am able to get maybe 10-12 ounces. I m supposed to be drinking 3 Protein Shakes a day at 8 ounces each but I can't even get in 8 ounces. They are the Bariatric Advantage ones and they are so thick. I am switching to Isopure in the bottle today to try to combine liquid and Protein in an effort to get my protein in. I know I need the protein to promote healing among other things so I am trying to get it in but after two sips I am so full and I have difficulty drinking more. I watch the time and try every 15 minutes to drink more. Any advice? I will be calling the NUt Monday morning for more advice but any now is greatly appreciated.

Sorry I am only 2 days post-op...must be the pain meds...lol

You are NOT ALONE! It's a slippery slope because if you don't get fluids in, you'll end up hospitalized for dehydration faster than you can snap your fingers like I did.At the same time, you're getting used to this new way of taking tiny sips that I must say was difficult for me and still is and I'm 11 days post op. I did find that Premier Protein shakes go down easier as well as sugar free Popsicle for some reason. Something is better than nothing. Let's just hang in there and put forth great effort because the results are sooooo worth it!

To me, ALL Protein shakes are too thick and sweet. I dilute the RTD 1/2 and 1/2 with Water or milk. The powders I mix with at least 16 oz liquid, not the 6-8oz the directions say to. I also froze my Protein drinks into Popsicles and sucked on them instead of SF Popsicles that have no nutritional value (besides Water content)

You may try different shakes, too. I've tried dozens of different brands/flavors over the past year and a half and Bariatric Advantage was by far the worst tasting to me. And Isopure is the only one that ever made me gag postop. Syntrax nectar has the similar, thinner consistency as Isopure. My other favorites are Muscle Milk, Syntrax Matrix, Quest, premier, Spirutein, and BSN Syntha 6. You can get samples to try at Nashua Nutrition so you don't have to buy a whole tub.

I am one week out and struggling with liquids and getting 60 grams of Protein. I am doing a little better today, but the Protein is hard. I am going to do better tomorrow.

@@gettingtothenewme I was like that the first 10 days or so. I always felt hungry! My stomach growled, made lots of noise, and I always felt like it was empty. It even woke me during the night. Then magically around 10-14 days out it just stopped. I was on full liquids 3 weeks after surgery, so it wasn't new foods that changed anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
