Hi friends. I contact you because I am actually very scared because I had my VSG procedure done on Monday the 11th and by Wednesday the 13th the doctor thought I was draining too much (my drain tube had to be emptied 3 times during the day @ 80 cc per time) plus I had tachycardia and my red globes had gone below 9.

I was in the OR again by Wednesday, they opened up my ports and saw that some bleeding had happened. Couldn't find the actual spot but they re-sutured the port that seemed to have had the problem and off I go again.

I was supposed to return to my husband and kids today and here I am in another city paying 3 extra days in a hotel and a blood transfusion performed today to have 2 blood units transfused because the doctor thought it would help me.

My concern? I am STILL draining too much. 250cc since last night.

My question is does anybody remember how much did you drain? Should I be worried? I feel fine. Very sore under my left side but ok. No fever no dizzines no vomits... nothing irregular except for the draining amount.

Please let me know what you think.

So sorry to hear you are having complications! I had heart complications after surgery but they cleared up pretty quickly. I can't comment on the drainage as I didn't have ports but I wanted you to know that sometimes recovery isn't as smooth as we think it is going to be....but it will get better soon.....hang in there! Better days are ahead :)

I dont completely understand. Gastric sleeve doesn't have ports, lapband does.

I was a band to sleeve revision and had drains too. I don't recall the output but it was not excessive. I hope they figure this out soon.

The forum rules ask people to not post the same message multiple places...thanks.

Thank you so much 4me4them. Support is all I needed I guess since I have been away from my family for a week and I am all alone in another city and with the complications I actually started fearing for my life since I have drained over a liter since the procedure was done. I thought I would bleed to death in my sleep.

I had a lapariscopic sleeve surgery. The doc said each of the holes were called ports. Sorry if I posted my message a couple of times in disctinct forums. I am new and was not aware of that rule plus I think my desperation is understandable if you'd put yourself in my place and found yourself alone in a hotel room seeing you just filled a whole glass of blood overnight and can't find anywhere on the Internet how much is too much. But don't worry won't happen again.

This is a question You should ask your surgeon. Did they tell you what to watch out for?

The surgeon was concerned by the amount of bloody discharge coming out of the drain. That's why they opened my wounds for a second time on Wednesday and why i had to stay a bit longer away from home. He suggested a blood transfusion that I got done yesterday but then overnight I had 280 cc of bloody liquid in the drain and an extra 150cc during the day (until this moment).

I keep draining but feel ok. No dizziness, no pale skin... that's why I was so desperate to hear from other people about their experience. Maybe this is not normal but at least not bad either... Thanks for reading.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
