Hello. I had the gastric sleeve done on 5/6/15 and I'm on the liquid diet. The past two days I've been really down in the dumps and questioning if I did the right thing to get this surgery. I know in my heart it was the right thing but my head is telling me different. I'm not really missing food it's the diet Pepsi. For some reason that's the one thing that my focus is on. Old habits die hard! I know it's so bad for you and refuse to even try it. It seems so silly but I think it's because I'm having a hard time finding options to drink. My nausea has been a big battle and even Water can make it worse. My taste has changed so much. Anyways did anyone else have a day or two that was hard? Any suggestions of some good drinks to try? Also any suggestion for the nausea? I do have meds for it but that doesn't always do the trick. Thanks for your help!

I had a day where I was trying to get my Protein in very early on and it was just crappy. Everything I tried to drink was just horrible. I was on clears, and the Isopure was working (it's not great, but I've had worse), but I was so tired of it that I was trying the other things I'd bought in preparation for surgery. My nose was so sensitive to that "protein" smell I could barely get anything down and it was all disgusting to me. I was definitely frustrated. Luckily the next day I got to start the full liquids so shakes and all that got introduced back in. It was so much better because there is a bit more choice than clear options. (Although even then there were days it was hard to finish my Protein goal because it was just really sweet by the end of those two weeks.) You will get through it. It's not easy, but it is definitely worth it. Stick to the plan and don't let yourself rationalize eating off plan. Especially not while your stomach is so new. You will make it and you'll be so happy when you get that 1-2 oz portion of refried Beans or yogurt lol.

Megs2016, I'm 11 months out and the reality is I have had many of those days throughout this recovery, discovery, and new life process.

I've had the what did I do, and I just can't stand another and is this the way it's always going to be days.

I think everyone will have to admit that we really were NOT prepared for how dramatic the change really is and its ongoing.

I remember taking that first drink of a diet coke at one month just to see and throwing up foam in the sink immediately. Omg what happened to the taste. I was "warned" and I learned on my own. And still today, I can take sips, not the same.

However to put some perspective, I have a diet journal where I started over and over again and again and how disgusted I was with myself with failing the last time and admitting the starting weight and choosing the new plan to follow. Do you remember those days? Weren't they bad? Or what about the day we failed each and every one of those diets. Failure again.

And uplifting. In all of these last 11 months of living and learning I'm under goal and loving it.

I still have a have a shake every morning and I have to plan every meal because my sleeve is very sensitive.

Good luck to you. And it will get better just roll with it!!!!

Let me count the days.... I don't get them as often now, but heck yeah....some days are just crappier than others. I wish I had some magic mantra that I could guarantee...but we all know it doesn't work that way. Be nice to yourself and know that the second thoughts, crappy days and "what have I done" panics are just transitionary...as soon as you feel better, and can move and feel rested/nourished again it will be just a memory...Hang in there! You can do it!

The clear fluid/fluid part of the post op diet had me ready to run screaming naked through the streets. I was crawling out of my skin a few times. My saving grace was chewing gum. When you don't chew for days it messes with your head. Take comfort-it will end soon then onwards and upwards.

Try Sobe 0 calorie life Water. It's the only thing I like to drink now besides water. I was sleeved 5/5/15. The Sobe is great!

I was also sleeved on the 6th and I am on full liquid it hasn't been too hard up until two days ago I have really been struggling with this liquid. I want food so bad I can't have soft foods until Thursday and I am running out of options lol I have been feeling hunger lately the only thing saving me right now are the cream Soups. I am able to get all my Protein in through my premier shakes but im still struggling with water. I haven't had any regrets yet just wish these days would go faster so i can eat something. I am sure once we can eat we will be feeling much better

I'm in the same boat. I've had many moments of thinking that I wasn't so fat, why did I do this to myself? I remember I once thought it odd that there would be support groups for this. What was I thinking? Now I get it. This is tough. Anyone who says it's the easy way out needs a rude awakening. I got mine on 5/5/2015 and all I can think about is how FAR away the soft foods are. 10 more long days.

Soft foods will defiantly make thinks a little better! Has anyone tried milk yet? I tried it twice and it was really good but I was nauseous. I don't know if it was the milk or if its because I am always nauseas these days. On line I found out Coke released a milk line and it has more Protein and half the sugar. It's called Fair life. My mom has looked in several stores and hasn't found it yet. Anyone tried it or seen it?

Fairlife milk is the best thing that's ever happened to me!! I used to drink 1/2 a gallon of 1% every two days, so I missed milk! But the fairlife is great, chocolate and regular! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!

Wal mart and target both have it where I live in Alabama

Only Sam's Club carries it where I live.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
