Hi! I have to admit that anytime someone mentioned weight loss surgury I was offended. My lunch time walking partner asked me if I knew anything about the lap band. We are both strugling to get below 250 lbs.. I did some research for her and changed my mind.

We both have to complete the six month supervised diet before we can have the lap band surgury. It's funny how she was the one to start down this path but I'm the one really pursuing it. I already have my appointment with the surgen and have started the six month supervised diet. The appointment clerk sugested that I start to look for support groups. Durring the next six months I can form a network to help me do well after the surgury. I know that I will need it. My husband told me that he will support me in what ever I want to do but he loves me as I am. He is joining WW with me to help me. Other than my husband and lunch buddy, I don't have anyone who supports this.

You are the first person I'm replying to. I just joined, and I've never really done this messaging thing before. I can't believe you have to wait 6 months. I saw my dr. on Monday and seeing the psychologist on Firday. I was told I can have the surgery as soon as insurance okays it - probably in a month. I am really excited! The worst part for me right now is that my surgeon is 3 1/21 hours away. I found him on the internet and even though there are lots of otheres closer by, this guy's website kept drawing me back. Then when I met him I knew he as the one. I won't be able to go to the support groups because of the distance so I'm glad I found this site.

Welcome and congratulations on pursuing this weight loss journey. I am also from Maryland. I was banded on 4/30/07 and so far I absolutely love it. Who is your surgeon? I also had to do the six months of supervised weight loss with my PCP. The time goes by quickly. Where in Maryland are you located? I wish you the best of luck and keep us informed of how things go for you. GOOD LUCK!!!

Tina

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
