Should I be concerned?

Recommended Posts

Okay, most y'all know I lost my mom. 3 weeks today. I have had the equivalent of 3 small meals in that timeframe. I'm literally getting through the day on coffee and a cheese stick or Peanut Butter or cottage cheese. I'm drinking fruit2o.

Today I worked myself into the ground taking out my grief on the yard...tearing it for all mom's perennials. What should I do? I boiled eggs like a week and a half ago. Tonight I finally mashed the little sobs up and made egg salad. Got about a cup down but it hurt my stomach.

I don't know what to do! I don't drive, can't get to my surgeon etc. can't ask my grieving Dad. Ugh. HELP???

Try calling your surgeons office. They may be able to give advice over the phone. I had a band in 2004. Applesauce and thin oatmeal seemed to sit well when nothing else did. I am sorry for your loss and I pray things get easier soon.

I know the feeling Tri having a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil before a meal it will help the food slide easier and eat slower.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I know it's hard to eat, but starving yourself will not help, just as stuffing yourself wouldn't have helped in the old days. Since you have no desire to eat, can you at least try to drink Protein shakes? Maybe if you have 3 or 4 of them a day, just like during the pre- and post-op weeks, you can still get some nutrition while you struggle with your grief. And as other have said, call your doctor to make sure you'll be okay. When we lost my Dad, my Mom had trouble coping for a long time until she went to a few bereavement sessions offered by our local hospice. Somehow they really helped her deal with her emotions and she was able to start functioning again. Of course her grief didn't go away, but it was a big step for her. We wish you all the best and offer our support during this very difficult time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
