@jm726 Try varying the temperature of your Water. Cold Water can cause spasms in some people at first. Room temp is what most people prefer. I had the hardest time with plain water after my surgery, but the minute I added lemon, lime, crystal light or infused water, boom the pain was gone! I read somewhere that water has a high surface tension and swallowing it post surgery makes it feel heavy like rocks, but by adding something to it like a squeeze of lemon the surface tension is decreased. I haven't actully looked into this theory, but I can say it does work for me!

Keep in mind, you were just pumped full of fluids for your surgery, once you are up and moving around more and your Protein and liquid consumption starts increasing you will start dropping quiker.

I'm 6 weeks out and it still takes me more than an hour to drink an 11 oz premier Protein shake. It just feels heavy and fills me quick.

You are doing great...as long as you do your part your surgery will do its part!

I've officially stocked up on crystal light! It seems to be easier with that than the Water as you suggested. Thank you so much.

I was sleeved on 5/12/15, it has been a rough two days!! Coughing is the worst! There is no way I can drink 64oz right now. Maybe 30oz and that's pushing it!!

I was sleeved 5/11/15 . As of right now both my pain and had pain are tolerable. My Dr has me on a liquid diet for 2weeks, 4oz per HR so basically I'm doing 1 oz every 15 mins. I mostly am drinking Water for 2oz then a Protein Shake for the other 2oz.

Yes, coughing does suck! I had a hiatal hernia in addition to the sleeve, so I'm having lots of chest pain too. I'm only 30, and I feel like I'm 85! Lol. I can use the Water from my Protein towards my Fluid intake, just not broth. I just have a hard time drinking the protein. I really like the idea of an ounce every 15 min. Going to try that... Have yall seen the waterlogged app? It's a water diary, and you can even set it to where it'll remind you to drink... It makes a flowing water sound. Going to set mine for 15 mins, and see how it goes for the day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
