Trouble with food

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I am about a month and a half away from surgery and trying to stick to the 12-1500 calorie diet. I've actually lost 12 pounds! The people at my work are constantly bringing food and literally walking it up to me and offering and I've even got some guilt trips for not eating their food. Any tips to help get past the huge urge to want to eat all this bad stuff!! I am trying to stay motivated but it's very hard.

Yes I already do that. The offers and pushing don't stop! I know I need to just get over it and toughen up but sometimes it's hard to stay motivated! ????

You could go through your office and let them know what you are doing and then thank them for being supportive and understanding why you won't be participating in their "goodies." The ladies in my office all know what I'm up to in preplanning and they have stopped asking me about extra chocolates and come by to offer a walk or a Water or something healthy instead.

Hope that helps!

People just don't understand how much we are pressured by society when it comes to food! I've heard people tell obese people to quit 'stuffing their face' and lose weight but most don't understand that just like any addiction, food addiction is very real and obesity is a disease that needs to be treated as such in order to be overcome. It starts with you, though! I'm very proud that you're sticking to your guns!

imjenn thank you for understanding! I never thought of food as an addiction until recently. I'm really struggling with it. They all know I'm having the surgery done. I'm a very open person. If I can't share these big decisions in my life with people I see everyday I question the decision. They just don't seem to understand! I'm thinking about checking out some podcasts or a book about food addiction that may bring some help motivating and keep me on the right path!

I think by your statement you are on the right path. They know what your plans are you are willing to accept and identify the problems and start working through it. You are going to do great!

I remind people that it's an addiction just like alcohol or nicotine or anything like that! A lot of people seem to forget this! You seem to be doing a great job on keeping yourself on track! I have no doubts you will be fine!!!:)

Had the same experience at work today too, I simply said I'm trying to lose weight so no thanks. They were all supportive and left it at that

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
