5 years out and need to get back on track. Help

Recommended Posts

Hi I had my VS oct 2010. Yep. I loved it. Still do. Problem is I lost me way. I feel trapped in a forest of unhealthy foods. I can eat anything in small portions. I know my sleeve is stretched. Last dr visit he x rayed it said some expansion. That was 3 yrs ago. So now I feel like it would be Mount Everest.

I started back on Protein today. Has some Water and my Vits. Started feeling hungry so I ate a small amount and stopped when full. Hoping I can recover over next few days and start the weight loss again. Sad to say when I started this process I was 257. Surgery day I was 247 with hypertension and boarder line type 2. Today I feel sluggish and fat all over again. I just want to hide. I do not feel happy, sexy or worthy. Especially once I stepped on scale. The last time I was on one I was at 139 at 1 yr out. Today it said 180. That's a 41lb increase since I year. I am about to start the 5 day pouch reset. Hoping it helps. Kick start my diet again. Thanks to all of you. I don't post often but I visit site from time to time to check in.

I'm not at maintenance yet, but it sure sounds like to me you are on the right track again!

I always appreciate posts like yours. They always make me realize that once I get to goal and then maintenance that the struggle just begins to stay accountable and diligent for the rest of our lives or the weight will slowly creep back up on us.

You got this! Good luck!

@ welcome! Good for you that you are catching this before it goes any further. We all live with the fear of regain. It is a real and looming threat, so don't feel too bad. Obesity is a disease that's never really cured. We can manage our weight, but we have bodies with a propensity to gain weight, so we can never let our guard down.

Not sure if you are asking, but my suggestion is to do what you know worked before. Follow the bariatric rules.

  • Weigh/measure food
  • track and limit calories
  • don't drink before/after meals
  • Protein first
  • no grazing
  • increase activity

Some people have had success with the 5:2 diet. If you search on here, you'll find lots of information about it. One other thing that I do is weigh daily. It really keeps me focused. I can gain super fast, so if I waited for tight clothes I'd already be out of control. And cut yourself some slack. It's over. You've come to grips with what you need to do, and you know how to do it. Congratulations for that!

@

Thanks for your honesty. With weight loss surgery the work is never over..Right? Bravo to you for getting back on the horse. No point in beating yourself up over the weight gain. Push forward. We know you have done this before and you can do it again.

Hi Carlie -

Don't be so hard on yourself. Appreciate that most of the newbies on this site would think - if they weighed 180 - that they had died and gone to heaven. Thats why its called "OnederLand".

The great news is that your body is set up to help you loose weight AND your mental state is that you have realized that there is a problem and YOU want to control it, not let it control you.

So, reset your mind to back when you were sleeved, and do all the right things you did then.

Don't worry about the past or yesterday - you can't change that. But, YOU are in complete control of what happens today and tomorrow.

-RC-

I have a friend that is a NUT and she pointed me to an interesting article a couple of years ago. It said that if you go over your optimal calorie consumption by just 100 calories a day (super easy to do), you will gain 10 pounds a year. I'm betting that's what happened right? Here a little there a little? It happened to my mom too. She gained back about 40lbs too. She's lost 25 though by simply NOT GRAZING. She still can't eat much at once but grazing gets you over your calories without even noticing. You shouldn't feel down on yourself, it happens. I hope you can move forward and feel better about yourself (no matter what the scale says).

Thanks for all the support. I had a good day with Protein intake. I had 2 servings of shakes and a small chicken & chees casadilla with my son. I also drank 4 12 oz bottles of Water. When I felt a craving I chewed a piece of sugar free gum. It is gonna be a hard restart. But I am just trying to stay positive. Had a side effect today which I expected migrane from carb reduction. But a small amount of the tortilla that the casadilla was made from seems to help. I also received in 1 container of syntha 6 Protein as well as powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored and vanilla. So I will be making some pudding to add with the shakes for a while.

I thank all of you for the support. I really miss that. My life is so crazy ( full time college student, wife, mother if 2 ages 11 & 16). We have had 4 deaths in 8 months. So that caused some depression and I just eat whatever. I can't do more then 5 ounces a meal. But I did notice today I wanted to graze. So that's what my biggest issue will be. Keep all your suggestions coming. I'm hoping to do some light exercise tomorrow. I'm hoping to ride my bike for a few blocks. Thanks for all the suggestions and support. Oh one more thing my husband said he loves me no matter what. He said he's the luckiest man in the world. That helped my spirits alot. <3 you all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
