Looking for suggestions for broths...

Recommended Posts

Well I am two days from having my surgery (GS) and I am nervous, excited etc... I am so tired of chicken, beef broth, I don't do vegetable broth don't like the taste, are there any others out there that I don't know about. Oh yea, I also get Won Ton Soup without the won ton and Pho.

Was wondering about Bone Broth. Has anyone tried it?

Any and all suggestions are helpful.

Thanks!

I bought Ramen noodles because they are super cheap and I just made a packet with 4 cups of Water. I know it's very high in sodium but I hated the other broths out there. I also bought some Campbell's condensed chicken noodle and made it with a cup of Water. Then strained all the noodles and "Meat" out. It was a lot easier to have broth that way.

Bone brooth is great! Cheap, easy and full of so many nutrients. I just stared making it and it's much tastier and chock full of goodness than store bought. Google it or buy broth Cookbook through Amazon

Swanson flavor infused broths. They have Mexican tortilla, Chinese hot & sour, and Tuscan chicken.

I wouldn't get too much of anything... you can always buy more as you need it. I found that I really didn't do much broth, and I still have a stockpile of flavored bullion cubes. Once I had my Protein drinks in I was more about sipping on flavored waters.

I posted a broth recipe which is basically the clear broth you get before Japanese Hibachi...I think it's under recipes. Or you can Google. It's a combo or chicjen, beef, carrots, onions. I also added some mushrooms. I just left out the added slices and the fried onions that would be added after. I found it very good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
