Vitamins (and other pills)!

Recommended Posts

I'm putting together a list of things to buy before surgery. I have already purchased bunch of different Vitamins (Flinstones, Biotin, Calcium, B-12), as well as a Vitamin dispenser, but wondering if I'm missing anything - Vitamins or other.

For those of you who are post-op VSG, what pills do you take on a daily basis? The name, the dosage, and at what time of day do you take them?

Thanks!

I take all of those, plus I am required to take D3 (2,000 units) once a day. I get it at Walgreen's.

@@Miss Mac Thanks! So, what is your Vitamin schedule? What do you take in the morning, afternoon and evening...and how much of each? Also, do you take anything for gallstones, reflux, etc?

Your surgeon should help with this. I've heard all kinds of differing opinions on this. I'm allowed to take pills but a friend that had the same surgery, different surgeon, was told she can never take pills again.

I was told by my surgeon to take one 20mg Omeprazole every morning, two Calcium with Vitamin D, one Super B Complex and one Multi-Vitamin. I take them all every morning. I began this regimen at two weeks out from surgery.

Your surgeon or nutritionist should have a specific plan for you. Ask for the regimen they recommend and then follow it. My nutritionist gave me the list at my last pre-op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
