It's surgery day!

Recommended Posts

I'll be having my surgery in a little over 3 hours. I'm nervous and excited, but mostly scared of the pain following the surgery(evil gas pain). Hopefully, I'll have the luck of some of you who came out of the operation with minimal pain. I'm not counting on it though. I know two people who have been sleeved by the same surgeon, and they said the surgery was rough for them when they came out of it. Cross your fingers for me, please. I'll be in the hospital for two nights, so I won't be able to report back until Thursday.

Best of luck. Even if you don't feel very well after surgery, it's just a tiny part of the whole process and you forget about it very quickly. I didn't feel so great after surgery but it was totally worth it. Would do it again in a second.

good luck and don't sweat the gas stuff. I did. I was lucky and had none. I hated waiting to get leak test done the next day so I could get a drink.

I had my surgery yesterday. I did not experience any gas. The worst part was drinking that nasty liquid for leak test. But they gave us a little cranberry juice after which made it better I left the hospital today and had some pain. But once I took the pain meds I felt better. I do not have a appetite at all. I'm looking forward to losing this weight. Summer is almost here. The best of luck to us all on this journey.

Thanks everyone. The surgery went well, and the pain at the incisions is fairly minimal, though I'm still taking my pain meds to try to stay on top of it. The one thing they haven't been helping is these horrible full body aches I'm getting, especially in my arms. It feels like I did about 1,000 bicep curls and shoulder presses. I absolutely can't wait for this pain to go away, Hopefully it will within the week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
