theotherfatgirl 134 Posted May 12, 2015 So I'm finally done with all my pre op doctors and insurance is ready to receive paper work. I'm scheduled for surgery June 10th and I've been stressing that somehow I might get denied. I feel like my surgeons office has been very hands off not really stressing approval at all. I see people getting approval months in advance when mine hasn't been submitted with a month away and they are very well you have plenty of time. Lol should I stress or be doing something else or do most surgeons offices have it handled
thelakeisgone 25 Posted May 12, 2015 I'm surprised that they would even schedule surgery BEFORE being approved. Did you ask if they usually handle it this way? Not that it's a bad thing, just seems backwards. But once you're approved it makes things go quickly. I have to be approved before they will give me a surgery date :/
theotherfatgirl 134 Posted May 12, 2015 Yeah I did cause they scheduled it on my first appt lol actually scared me cause she's like June 10th I'm like next time I come in ? She's like no surgery date don't get me wrong they are totally on point with everything so far everything couldn't be easier process I guess why I'm like uh so shouldn't we be stressing approval from insurance meanwhile they are like very you have time about it lol
lauren8486 48 Posted May 12, 2015 @@theotherfatgirl - where are you located? The previous office I was working with used to "pre-schedule".
theotherfatgirl 134 Posted May 12, 2015 The office is in Somerset nj
Martene81 383 Posted May 12, 2015 I'm in the same boat. My surgery is scheduled for May 27th and I still have not heard back from insurance yet. I'm not stressed at all, I'm sure it will all come together. If it makes you feel better maybe you can call and confirm when your paperwork will be submitted then check with insurance to see how long they have to process it. twittymilk 51 Posted May 13, 2015 Add me to this list as well. I'm scheduled for Monday 5/18 and insurance paperwork was just submitted last Thursday. Every time my phone rings I think it's the doctor's office calling to tell me I'm denied.
theotherfatgirl 134 Posted May 13, 2015 I feel like It definitely stresses me out because you can get denied up to day of lol like eh that's all I need
Theex01 1 Posted May 13, 2015 @@theotherfatgirl I am in the same exact boat right now! My surgeon booked my surgery for June 10 and I'm waiting to hear if Cigna approves me. I keep waiting for the call from my surgery scheduler. My patient advocate said my paperwork looks perfect (I did have to get a few additional documents before she would submit) so fingers crossed for both of us! Eek so nervous!! rowebaught 21 Posted May 13, 2015 Call your insurance company and inquire if it was approved. I found out I was approved weeks before my dr office told me.
Cat50 0 Posted May 13, 2015 What kind of documentation does the insurance require?
Theex01 1 Posted May 13, 2015 @@Cat50 My insurance (Cigna) required PCP documentation for 3 consecutive months of weight, diet and exercise program. They don't require weight loss, just documentation of program and weight. Then I had to get chest x-ray, cardiac clearance letter from cardiologist, a Psychiatric evaluation, and blood testing. Theex01 1 Posted May 13, 2015 @@theotherfatgirl Wow, you must have good insurance! I can't believe that's all you needed. Awesome. I consider myself lucky cause my insurance only requires 3 months of weigh-ins and a lot of others have to weigh-in for 6 months prior to approval. I made it my New Year resolution to get this surgery and I had my first Dr. Appt. on 1/24/15 and now, 6 months later, I finally get surgery. Patience has definitely been key in this process! Looking forward to seeing our progress : )
